okbeast Posted June 28, 2007 Author Report Posted June 28, 2007 I already spliced the hole up, but I'll do an after picture when/if I get done. Quote
okbeast Posted June 29, 2007 Author Report Posted June 29, 2007 Picked up a Lincoln 100 Mig welder last night for $50 w/ a roll of .035 wire. I'll go play around with it some tonight and see what I can do. Any tips? I've never mig welded before, but yes I know it's easy as cake supposedly. Quote
RZBansheeMan Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 Try to find somebody that welds or has welding experience to show you and then try to repeat what they do. Now get some scrap metal of similar thickness and practice, practice, practice, it will take some patience but you can do it. Quote
375hp banshees Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 Got a little happy with the grinder and cut a whole in my subframe, where the huge stock exhaust mounts were. Get to do a little fabbin up tonight. I'm just gonna notch the hole out and cut a piece to fit in off some old handlebars, weld it in, grind it off and it'll be good as new. I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow. did you actually cut off your subframe & weld in new one, or you just lightening yours & went to deep grinding your existing one down? Quote
okbeast Posted June 29, 2007 Author Report Posted June 29, 2007 Got 'er a little too deep. I've debated seeing if someone would cut off their subframe and I'd patch it onto mine, but that seems like more work then what I'm doin here. Just takes alot of time, but now with the Mig we'll see what happens. Quote
racer Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 I'm too far into it to pay someone now, besides they'd prolly shit their pants if they saw what I've done to it so far. if youre in stillwater I bet we can arrange something. cause my MIG is up there and so am I Quote
okbeast Posted July 2, 2007 Author Report Posted July 2, 2007 Naw I was down in Duncan, preciate it though. Finally got it patched up after burning hole after hole. It's a little smaller than the other side but hopefully after PC you won't be able to tell. Quote
racer Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 Good to hear, if you ever need anything in stillwater let me know. I just moved out of the frat lodge into a house with a garage so most of my tools are up there. And what I don't have I have no trouble getting for the most part. Quote
okbeast Posted July 2, 2007 Author Report Posted July 2, 2007 Cool, so I'm guessin ur gonna be up there another year or so? Bet ya can't wait for homecoming to start I did pick up a Lincoln 100 mig welder for possibly free the other day so that should make things a little easier. Thanks for the offer too, might have to hit ya up if I ever have the bike up there and have problems. Quote
okbeast Posted July 3, 2007 Author Report Posted July 3, 2007 Well after the sandblasting it looks like shit again, so I'm gonna have the same place that did the blasting touch it up to fill in all the holes and hopefully it'll look good again. Quote
racer Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 Cool, so I'm guessin ur gonna be up there another year or so? Bet ya can't wait for homecoming to start ya, I'm on the five year track.
