peak-j Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 Man, I've been trying to get these new knarly tires to bead up and these fuckers won't go. I finally got the front to go, but the back side won't go on the rear wheels. I put a strap around them and put 20#'s of air in them. I also remeasured the wheels and they are the same. I am using different wheels. Tryed the soapy water trick and nothing. Thanks for any input. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 when you tighten the strap how far are the tires from the rim? are they holding air but not popping over the bead? of so you can bounce them and that can do the trick some times Quote
bansheefreak Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 i got an old tire trick i have had to use few times but you have to be very carefull and prolly shouldnt recommend but a lil starting fliud in the tire and light it will bead up anything.. but you have to watch it could be very dangerous if you dont know what your doing... just sqiurt some in there like only a sec not any more you dont wanna blow the tire off.. then spray from inside tire to a trail on the ground plug in air hose and then step back and light the trail of starting fliud.. walla tire beaded up.. i will state again this is very dangerous so use min amount of starting fliud .. p.s. i take no responsabilty for any actions tooken from this post.!!! Devans Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 works great ,i have done this a number of times just be careful same here, i just dont want to recomend it to anyone.... but it does work well. Btw, are you taking the valve out of the stem? Alot more air will go in the tire at once with the valve out... Quote
Snopczynski Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 I built a bead blaster cause I used to have to bead up 25" tires on my Rhino. You can take em to Les Schwab, they should have a blaster. Quote
Fastrat Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 (edited) +1 on fire trick, but also more dangerous(first found this trick watching 4x4 guys in Iceland, works nicely). I've had to go more than 20psi to seat beads before, the side of the tire should say max seating press...and going over it by a bit won't hurt. Edited June 24, 2007 by Fastrat Quote
BillyRay Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 Generally, you can go to 36 psi to seat the bead on rear tires. Quote
peak-j Posted June 24, 2007 Author Report Posted June 24, 2007 Yeah, I have done the starting fluid trick before on a truck tire. Never on a tire this small. I also haven't taken the core out of the stem and aired it up yet. The side of the tire says max air 15 psi. so I'm going to about 20psi. I think I will let them set out in the sun for a while, we have done that with dirt track tires before. I left the air in over night to see if that would do anything, so I still need to check that out. Thanks for the replies. Quote
bonbon Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 So you can get them to air up, just not seat the bead? If that it, do the soapy water trick and while your airing them up tap around the bead on the tire with a hammer....I used to do that on lots of tires and if you just beat it it jars them enough to bead up. peak-j Posted June 24, 2007 Author Report Posted June 24, 2007 Alright, I got them done, I set one out in the sun for a couple of hours and when I went to look at it, it had beaded up. The other one went on alright, but it was pretty hot also from setting outside. Thanks for all the help. Quote
