Hey you guys, have been keeping an eye on your forums lately as i just bought a 2003 stock banshee and i know jack all about them  You guys are a fountain of knowledge!!! :notworthy:

Here is my wee problem im having. i have used the search option on the forums and got alot of info already but just want to check something. The banshee wont start with out me kicking it a load of times (6-10) with the ignition and key switched off.

From what i have read in the forums i think my carbs and jets might need a real good cleaning. would i be correct?

cheers for all the help and go easy on me im only a newbie with limited/no knowledge

ok so let me clarify this really quick... it will start right? its just a pain? and it will only start with your key and your kill switch on off? is that correct?

Yep you got it. it starts after i like prime it with the ignition and key off then turn it on and she fires up. she is completely dead if i just try to kick her with out priming her first. cheers mate

Ok I've heard some wierd starting rituals but thatsa new one. It should fire up with the ignition "on" in a few kicks (like one to ten). Have you tried the choke? Throttle on & off? They are all a little different in what they like (and how they're jetted) as far as cranking up. It wouldn't hurt to check the compression, and cleanin' carbs is never a bad idea, especially the tiny pilot jet passage that'll directly affect idle...

Yep tried the choke on full and half. and tried with throttle on. i did get the compression checked and it was good (dont ask me what it was though cos i didnt ask like a dumbass!!). as far as jetting or anything i dont have a clue! i think il have a look at the carbs and clean them.

is it a big job?

should i have a go myself?

cheers Ben

Unless you got all kinds of money for someone else to do it for you...it's time to learn...the lesson will be invaluable.

The best thing you could buy right now is a clymers manual, you can find 'em on ebay for 20 bucks or so, or 30 to 40 brand new at a stealership.

it will show you in detail how to remove and check most items on the bike...

Welcome to the club...and the addiction.

Clean the carbs... thats may help. It is very easy, just pay attention when you take them apart so you can get it back together. Clean the pilot jet out, they can plug up and make a very hard start. My wifes 2000 had plugged pilots and was very hard starting. As dajogejr said, get a clymer manual, they are very helpful. here is a pic of the carb with the bowl off so you can see where the pilot jet is... can be hard to find if you have never been in a carb before..

if i'm reading this right ,your taking the 10 kicks to get enough fuel to start, (since there is no spark, its trapping A little each time) then you turn the ignition on & all the fuel ignites & it starts.. makes sence to me ,get A manuel & clean your carbs
