Here's the situation, i installed a aluminum clutch cover...(so i had to drain all the fluid including coolant) Well when i put it back on even after putting new water pump seals, gaskets, everything it is running HOOOOOOOOOT.

So is it because i didn't get the air pockets out of the line when i put new collant in or could it be something else?

Someone said if there is air pockets in the line it won't cool right.

Here is a pic of the bolts that someone told me to loosen and wait till the collant flowed out of them to get the air pockets out.

See the bolt i'm talking about????????

THATS WHAT I THOUGHT Just needed some more opinions i've seen alot of water pump and clutch cover questions about people taking them apart. Hopefully this helps them and reminds them to do that so they don't blow any head gaskets after it's all said and done.

One more question.............If you don't do that and release the air pocket would it cause the motor itself to overheat?

Being that it's not got the right flow of fluid cause of the air?

To tell you the truth ive never had problems with "air-pockets" , i just filler it up and start it, let it circulate, get it full- go for a ride then check it again, air pockets doesnt sound like the reason your overheating to me.. I may be wrong, your using coolant right? 50/50? How do you even know your overheating?

For the fact that you removed and replaced the cover I would lean more towards your water pump gear not being lined up or something of that nature before I would suspect air pockets. Been doing banshees for a long time and never once had any problems with air pockets. Ever. I just pour coolant in and check it after the first couple rides. Pull the cover back off and check and be sure your impeller gear is spinning the impeller nice and smooth and try and put it back on. Start the bike and rev on it a little bit and watch your radiator once you've filled it and be sure its circulating good.

So when i put the new cover on i may not have lined it up? So if i did do that is the water pump gear F'd up or is it just that it isn't lined up? I agree it could be that as well.

Same here, I use those bolts on the jugs to drain the coolant but that's it; fill her up at the radiator and start it with the cap off to watch for circulation. You don't necessarily need to pull the whole clutch cover, just the outer water pump cover and the inner one, kick it over slowly and make sure the water pump impeller is rotating, the little pin might have come out of the shaft that holds the gear or the gear itself may be thrashed, but I would also lean towards a water pump problem and not trapped air in the system...

Air pockets aren't your problem...

Those are drain plugs, not bleed plugs....

All I do is move the lower hose up and down, and squeeze it from the motor to the radiator...that's normally where the air hides. Burp it...if you will.

I agree w/ J...your WP probably isn't line up and circulating.

Thanks guys,

I had a hunch it could be the water pump, i hope it's nothing major...Maybe i can just line it up with the clutch cover on and hopefully the plastic gear isn't fucked up.

i had a buddy have a problem similar to yours, his plastic impeller was spining on the shaft when it warmed up , do you have a plastic or billet impeller ?, are you losing water ?

if you have a plastic impeller, (stock) i'd replace it the next time you have it apart. the plastic one is bound to fail sooner or later, most likely causing overheating, impeller seal failure, and coolant leaking into the tranny possibly causing your clutch plates to come apart, among other possibilities from not having good lubrication in the tranny. for the cost of a billet impeller, it's well worth it in the long run.

i just had mine apart & found that the white plastic gear inside the case had melted onto the pin & f'd the bearing all up. It still spun, it spun hard through the bearing, but barely...something to look at.

Yeah i still have the stock one, when i replaced the clutch cover i went ahead and got a new seal and barring for the water pump impeller. I'm just gonna get a billet one like yall said for the durability and less headache. I'm not losing water anywhere so maybe it's not lined up or the white plastic gear is f'd up. Thanks guys

Where is the best billet impeller i should get?
