pokeatyou2 Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 ok my mate is putting in a new clutch and had his clutch basket off to also do a shift star mod. when reinstalling the basket he noticed there is play between the basket and the gear behind the basket. is this normal? we dont think so. has any body else come across this before? and if so is it repairable it seems that they are bolted together and the heads of the bolts are cut off. we are thinking easy out the bolts and put in new bolts. any other opinions would be great. Wallrat Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 Its normal for a stock basket that's seen any use - but its not good. Only fix is to upgrade to an aftermarket basket. Or just re-install and hope for the best. Quote
okbeast Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 Actually if you've ever taken one apart you will see that it is actually not as big of a problem as everyone says it is. All that is happening is the round rubber spacer discs between the basket and the gear have worn some causing some rotational play. Now there is hardly any chance of these discs ever wearing down enough to cause anything catastrophic to actually happen, all that it causes is the play you describe. If he's got the money upgrade it but if not don't worry too much. Quote
MILO Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 i'm with wallrat. it's normal wear, but it is worn. i don't like having worn parts and doing nothing about it and taking chances. while you have it apart, upgrade. i put a hinson basket in mine. the stocker has rivets holding the basket to the gear. carefully grind them off as flush as possible, and tap them out with punch. the new one (at least the hinson set up) has screws that hold them together. it's really not a bad job to tackle, especially if you're to the point of having the stocker off already. i believe you can get replacement bushings for the aftermarket ones also, but not the stocker. especially if the fingers of the stock basket are grooved from the plates at all, it's time to change it out. if you have the $$, get a good aftermarket replacement. 450rcrazy022692 Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 It happens when your at a dead stop and when you let off the clutch lever it'll start to buck like it wants to stall but i jsut had it out and the power jsut isnt there when you hit it hard (it sounds like you are hitting powerband through every gear like it usually does in a wheelie but it has no pull at all and i get into 3rd were i usually can barely get outta 1st Quote
Fastrat Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 Sounds like you just need to give it more gas and slip the clutch a little more when pulling out. Ride it like you stole it bud, it's not a 450.... Quote
