mr_psi Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 hey guys... i am pretty new to the whole atv/quad/2-stroke world just bought a banshee and just a question, i have rode another quad and it seems to come onto powerband alot quicker then mine both quads have similar mods. what would be the problem? mine takes a fair while but when it gets onto power band it gets up and boogies! the previous owner told me that he put one of the bigger jets in it. would this make a difference? please inform me as to what you think it is? thanks mark Quote

The mods may be similar but the smallest thing can make noticable changes. Quote

zpolencheck Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 He put bigger jets in it, as he was supposed to, because the items you listed improved air flow so now you need to add more fuel (larger jets) to make it run safely. However, if he added too large of jets or adjusted the needle clip too far down then it would be dumping too much gas in, taking that extra time for the air to go from lagging behind to "catch up." Now, to fix the problem you will have to do some tuning and jetting. Since you said you are a beginner I am not sure what you do and do not know so instead of explaining it I will just let you know that there are plenty of how-to-jet posts in this section. Start reading and you will find more than enough info to get it running great. If you run into problems we will be here to help. Quote
shanYE west Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 What elevation are you and do you have the the air box lid on or off? Your going to have to find out what jetting you currently have(Mains, Pilots and Needle clip position) and if you have aftermarket reeds. Someone on here should be able to get you in the ballpark on your jetting. Just need a little more info is all. Quote
mr_psi Posted June 1, 2007 Author Report Posted June 1, 2007 (edited) ok thats awesome information guys... i thought i would need more information i been reading some document about jetting and checking if the motor is running lean and rich and sounds exectly like a car but only easier.. i will do a check this weekend by using a couple sparkplugs and i will open the carby up as i am removing the TORS as well and see how i go. i have the feeling its runnin a bit too rich as its taking time to burn the fuel efficiently and also it cant be lean because it aint revving hard enough fast enough another thing that i think is contributing to the "crappy"sorta running banshee is the fuel/oil mix... i think he had it tuned to 25/1 however i am now runnin a 36/1 ratio as this will cause the banshee to run a even richer air/fuel ratio however just one quick question, does changing the oil/fuel mixture make that much difference to the tune? thanks again guys, i cant thank you enough! peak-j Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 Buy a carb. synchronizing tool, mine was a little boggy on the bottom end until I synchronized them. That made a big difference, also where are your air screws set at? Quote
mr_psi Posted June 1, 2007 Author Report Posted June 1, 2007 ahh alright will purchase one of them aswell... yer no idea where the air screws at will have to have a gander.. will keep you guys updates... thanks.. you are all champs Quote

XxMeltIcexX Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 Your premix will affect your jetting, the jets arn't changing and the fuel(oil)/air mixture is. Stick with one and get it jetted in right, i've never used a syncro tool(I feel its not really necessary if your always on the throttle), i just syncronize the slides as close as possible and make sure each turn on the carb is the same, after that i let it idle and if one cylinder is getting hotter than the other (exhaust also) then I give that side some more/less depending on where i'm at. I do that until both cylidners are warming up equally. Eric Quote
dajogejr Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 Mr_PSI...there are a few stickies...or pinned threads about jetting at the very top of this forum...I think they'll do you a world of good. Not only did you make a good choice of 2 stroke...but a banshee as well...congrats... It's gonna be fun, hide your checkbook and wallet with the wife...it gets expensive real quick... Quote
mr_psi Posted July 15, 2007 Author Report Posted July 15, 2007 haha thanks guys... yes anything mechanical gets very money orientated quickly. i know this as i had a performance car and was like nar it aint gonna cost money i will leave it as is... 6 months down the track my bank account is 15k short. ahh well you gotta enjoy it and once you ride a banshee you will never go back i have read the 20 page jetting document it is great, most of that stuff i knew other then where everything is. alright i am off to sync my carbs wish me luck Quote
