wrecker03 Posted May 8, 2007 Report Posted May 8, 2007 I'm using Cometic gaskets for my top end rebuild. Do I need anything on them like Permatex? The stock gaskets come with a type of sealer on them the Cometics don''t have anything. Should I use like Permatex copper? I didn't see any mention of it in the Clymers manual. Quote

wrecker03 Posted May 9, 2007 Author Report Posted May 9, 2007 Cometic says their gaskets are designed to be installed with nothing on them, in case anyone was wondering. Quote
dajogejr Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 If they are paper, I'd be using a thin coat of high temp RTV...but that's just me. If they're are the rubber kind with a sealing wire, no need. Quote
Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 my old boss use to take the paper gaskets and soak them in water then install them while they are wet. it makes them seal great but harder to remove when time comes. It will basically glue them self to both surfaces. Quote

Snopczynski Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 If I am installing any sort of plain steel gasket I always use copper coat on it. Quote
