ssincity Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I am putting my reed cage back and according to yamaha the bolt for the carb joint is 7.2 ft lbs. I have prodesign parts. 7 lbs just seems like a whole lotta torq on them. Any input. Most time I tighten till tight then a quarter turn more.. But I wanted to go by the book this time. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 i never torque any of that.. just put in the bolts and tighten them down making sure you dont over tighten them... Quote

Snopczynski Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 6mm bolt is 7ft lbs. You can torque it as long as all the threads are clean. Quote
FASTOYS Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 I have found on clutch bolts, reed bolts, etc. (all those lil 7.2ft lb bolts) that is better to use a 1/4" drive ratchet with a 6" extension and one hand to tighten them. Amost everyone that tries to torque them winds up busting one off. Too much discrepency with the torque wrench, gummed up threads, etc.. Also as Snopczynski said it helps if the threads are clean. peak-j Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 I torqued mine down to 7ft.lbs., never had a problem. Just because I wanted to go by the book though. Quote
Snopczynski Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 My cousin never torques heads or cylinders, it drives me nuts. He wonders why the clutch basket in his lt250r came loose too! Quote
