AnCieNt1 Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 well yamaha states to run yamalube a 24:1 not 32:1 and the others they recomend at 20:1.. but hey its your motor your money.. Quote
AnCieNt1 Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 (edited) ok i just looked in the service manual and what it said is what i posted... i run my motor at 28:1 on alky but to each his own..not gonna argue over this Edited March 18, 2007 by AnCieNt1 Quote
grunt Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 my owner's manual say's to run 24:1 but it runs rich Quote
RagunCajun Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 i run amsoil 32:1 with 93 octane. I've been told by several people they run 50:1 amsoil like it says on the bottle with no problem. Quote
96_banshee_96 Posted March 18, 2007 Author Report Posted March 18, 2007 (edited) Most have said that they run 32.1 So I think that is what im going to mix next time. The only reason Im running the 52.1 is because the guy at the dealership told me that this is what I want to run. When I mentioned I was going to mix it 32.1 he was like ohh no you dont want to do that. I believe the guy was just trying to sell me the most expensive shit they had and I bought it. Since I already mixed mixed 5 gallons gas and cannot take it back I was going to use a little bit to make sure my motor was going to start. I put some gas in kicked it over and it dint fire so I guess I have some more problem to figure out. Edited March 18, 2007 by 96_banshee_96 Quote
dajogejr Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Just do a search....people run from 20:1 to 100:1...depending on their needs and oil type. I think you'll find the "Majority" of people run either 32:1 or 40:1.... I personally never like Golden Spectro (Black and gold bottle, right? LIke 11 or 12 ounces in there) My buddy that races bikes (has since gone to 4 poke motocross bikes) used to always use it and swear by it. I used to use Super M @ 40:1, then switched to R50 @ 40:1. I'm going to be running Benoil at 24 or 28:1 in my alky bike.... Quote
RagunCajun Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 With my limited experience, i find if i run too much oil in the gas, i will foul out plugs and sacrafice a little bit hp. Spark plugs are cheap and i dont race for pinks so more lubrication and foulign plus is better to me than rebuilding a top end often. When i got my shee, shee was running 24:1 of benoil i believe. Once i ran the tank out, i mixed some amsoil 32:1 w/ 93 octane and it's never fouled a plug and it runs like a champ. I find my yz runs rich though with 32:1. I dont know why. I think i might try some 40:1 in it. Kinda hard when you only have one gas contrainer. Ah well, ill just mix 1.5 gallons and dump it in. Quote
Dark Ranger Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Just do a search....people run from 20:1 to 100:1...depending on their needs and oil type. I think you'll find the "Majority" of people run either 32:1 or 40:1.... I agree. I personally run Amsoil Saber at 80:1 (it is 100:1 oil) and have been for two years. I have had no problems at all. You have to do what you are comfortable with. Yamaha is of course going to have you use Yamalube at 20:1 to cover their asses and to sell more oil! Quote
96_banshee_96 Posted March 18, 2007 Author Report Posted March 18, 2007 Yes it is the black and gold bottle... Quote
02servalbanshee Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 I run Klotz 32:1 and never had any problems YET Quote
bgbeards Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 I ran Golden Spectro in my CR250 for over 10 years, mixed at 52:1. Never had a failure. I now run full synthetic at 40:1. I have heard that Golden Spectro is not the best, it's not a full synthetic, but it worked for me for many years...... Never fouled a plug either..... Quote
jmd0346 Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 I run Castor 927 @ 32:1. Seems to work fine and smells good. Quote
2003LimitedBanshee Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 The big thing people are missing is that Yamalube is a petroleum based oil (full petro) where as Golden Spectro is a petroleum/synthetic blend. I run my bike on golden spectro and have been running it at 48:1 since day 1. The bike only sees the dunes and a majority of that is hillclimbing, so it by no means gets babied (just got back in fact). Never had a single issue, and still kicks high numbers on the stock top end. There seems to be a common misconception that running more oil makes you less likely to seize the engine. In fact, if you don't jet it properly I would argue that more people seize motors by running too much oil. The reason, the run more parts oil, less fuel (which aides immensley in cooling the piston) and it leads to a hotter running engine and a possible seizure. If you start running a richer oil raito, make sure and jet up accordingly. Now there is some contention that you can make more power by running a higher ratio of oil, but it's not a lubrication issue it's a ring seal issue. So, haven't tested it myself, but my buddy who works at the local Yamaha shop and has dyno'd many a bike said he has seen it although he didn't believe it till he saw it. That's where I fall right now, I'll believe it when I see it. For me, oil is not combustible, so I will run as lean an oil ratio as I can to peak power, but just enough to keep everything moving. ojcool Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 According to their website 50:1 is safe. They do claim to be full synthetic which means it IS supposed to be safe to run at these ratios. I run 80:1 Amsoil and I have had no problems with it. I pulled my head and checked my cylinder bores after about 30 hours on a fresh rebuild and they still showed the honeing marks. I don't feel comfortable with storing the bike with this lean of a mix. I think if your putting the bike up for winter you should put 24:1 in it and run it some to coat all the parts with a good amount of oil. I would run the fuel. If your really that worried about it just add some yamalube to the fuel you already mixed. Figure out how many ounces of yamalube to bring the mix to the desired 32:1 ratio and roll on. Quote
