Ori Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Hi guys, today was the day I decided to start the banshee for a couple secs to see if it would run. Its been almost 1 year of a complete rebuild of the whole bike. Everything is brand new. I poured a little gas into the tank and walah it started easily. The sound of the crackling loud exhaust made my day. I only let it run for 20 seconds at most. My question is...Whats the proper break in procedure? Tomorrow ill be ready to take it down the road. Should I be easy on the throttle at 1st and run it through each gear or ? Thanks! P.S. heres a list of the mods -Milled head -Boysen reeds -Mildy ported/polished -FMF fatty exhaust -Clamp on airfilters Quote
mpbanshee Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Start it up and let it idle for several minutes until the cylinders are warm, then shut it off a let it fully cool. Start it up again and let it warm up, then ride it for a while gently through all of the gears, not staying at the same throttle position for very long and never over half throttle. Shut it off and let it fully cool again. Repeat this 4 or 5 times and you are ready to give her hell. Quote

Bansh-eman Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 i do three heat cycles... start it and idle to operating temp around 15 to 20 min usally... let it cool ALL the way down.. dont rush it, the metal needs to cool all the way so it expands and contracts as much as it can... do that three times for a total of an hour then your first ride go out and ride it but dont bomb on it... shift threw all the gears up and down several times... let it cool, but doesnt have to be all the way. then ride it like you stole it... okbeast Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 Got a buddy that gets his back together, jumps on it and lets it rip. He believes if it breaks in that 1st few minutes then it was bound to screw up, if not ur good to go  I'd personally go with one of the other methods, lol. Quote
Ori Posted March 13, 2007 Author Report Posted March 13, 2007 Today we did all those steps then gave it hell. WOW i must say 1st-3rd gear are useless. And once the power band kicks in,it REALLY takes off, you'd better be holding on and paying attension lol. We still have an issue with hard starting. I put the choke tube on and that made a difference in it idling but it still wont start easy, you have to pour alittle gas on the air filters to start it. Compression is good, carbs rebuild, choke tube on. What could it be? Thanks Quote
WuddupDoc Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 i feel bad now my banshee break in process was a race then i toke it slow. Quote
bansheesmoke Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 i feel bad now my banshee break in process was a race then i toke it slow. The idling and letting it cool down is the best way.....In my opinion. If its hard to start like that then it runs great it could just be the carb screws See where there at. Try about 1 and 1 quarter turns. Quote
