I never ran out of gear with a 14/41 and a drag ported set of stock cylinders. What kind of gearing are you running now?

BTW, happy birthday!!!

:thanks:

stock (14,41 right)I think, gota double check... stock port too, want to get #'s to compare to for when I port ...Ithink when I take out the 2" extention & stiffen up the rear shock I 'll be close but didn't know if I should shoot for 2nd or 1st gear hole shot?

I've got 13,42 gearing right now and with some V-paddles in fairly wet sand it's perfect launching in 2nd. Now when I get out in some soft sand with those paddles all I do is spin, so I'm gonna have to either try different gearing or different paddles, not sure which yet.

On dirt with the same gearing I noticed that launching in 2nd I either spun too much or couldn't keep the front end down so I had to launch in 1st and play with the clutch alot.

These are all with stock ported/stroke/bore motor with just bolt-on's.

yeah, If I'm in harder dirt the paddles sit on top & spin... I can't get the front to come up at all (which I kinda like ) so I could use more traction... don't wanta have to clutch it though, thats only hp lost

should i gear it for 1st or 2nd... there has to be A reason everybody(except strictly draggers?) races W/ 2nd gear launches ???

Well I do it b/c when launching in 1st you seem to spin through that gear so fast that you're launching to 2nd right away so you just launch in 2nd and save a shift.

I guess if you geared high enough you could launch in 1st and avoid this...

Get yourself a set of pro wedges and that will solve your traction problem and the tire swell will help on the gearing

Yep. Pro wedge 2's will make a really big difference in traction. They don't look like much, but they hook really hard.

I always took off in first....maybe it was just habit
