my buddy got his engine case powder coarted and i was think then he goes to tighten and torque down all the nuts and bolts is he going to have to put washers under them all so when they tighten down it doesnt chip?

power coating is tuff,. but I bet itll still scuff it if washers arent used.

 

chipping I seriously doubt.

wicked to be totaly honest its the first iv ever seen powder coating well other then on tv. i just though it might chip like paint would probably chip away when torqueing down. anyway thanks for the input i think i might have to try this poweder shit out

yeah it was clear coated and it was PCed a gloss black thanks i will let him know i never though of that

I would remove the PC from the areas the bolts contact with a razor blade if it were me. I would hate to see the PC to loosen or deteriorate over taim and allow a fastener to come loose. :thumbsup:

Firehead has a good idea. My case bolts came loose because they were crappy bolts and it sucked, and it would also suck to have them come lose because the PC came loose under them. Good thinking firehead :thumbsup:

I rarley have those kind of ideas. I may need to look into printing this thread out and having it framed.

 

I would also like ot point out that powder coating a sealing surface aslo does not work too well. There are a couple people around here that have done that and learned why it's not a good idea the slightly more difficult way. :thumbsup:

I would recommend that if anyone else has this done, be sure to have the PCer tape off your stud threads...

 

Really sucks to have to use a die to clean them up again.

 

And Be FUCKING careful cleaning off the gasket surfaces with a razor blade.. the aluminum surfaces cuts like butter..
