yamaha04 Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 my buddy got his engine case powder coarted and i was think then he goes to tighten and torque down all the nuts and bolts is he going to have to put washers under them all so when they tighten down it doesnt chip? Quote
fastrthnu Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 (edited) power coating is tuff,. but I bet itll still scuff it if washers arent used. chipping I seriously doubt. Edited February 6, 2007 by fastrthnu Quote
yamaha04 Posted February 6, 2007 Author Report Posted February 6, 2007 wicked to be totaly honest its the first iv ever seen powder coating well other then on tv. i just though it might chip like paint would probably chip away when torqueing down. anyway thanks for the input i think i might have to try this poweder shit out Quote
kaotik1 Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 It should not chip, it will scratch up a little bit. May be even leave a lift mark but not chip. Powdercaoting is very durable. Quote
racer Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 but some bling bling stainless washers would look badass if it was PD'ed gloss or flat black. Quote
yamaha04 Posted February 7, 2007 Author Report Posted February 7, 2007 but some bling bling stainless washers would look badass if it was PD'ed gloss or flat black. yeah it was clear coated and it was PCed a gloss black thanks i will let him know i never though of that Quote
firefighterjosh Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 Just install it as normal. It should chip. I have had my frame down and almost my whole 400 is PC and the only spots that are worng is were your feet rub and were my seat rubbed. And Also were weeds rubs as well Quote
DILUSI Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 but some bling bling stainless washers would look badass if it was PD'ed gloss or flat black. you can say that again. orange or red looks really good when done also Quote
FireHead Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 I would remove the PC from the areas the bolts contact with a razor blade if it were me. I would hate to see the PC to loosen or deteriorate over taim and allow a fastener to come loose. Quote
theshee Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 Firehead has a good idea. My case bolts came loose because they were crappy bolts and it sucked, and it would also suck to have them come lose because the PC came loose under them. Good thinking firehead  Quote
Animalman294 Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 Jeff has that motor in his avatar powdercoated red and it looks really sweet............. Quote

Good thinking firehead  I rarley have those kind of ideas. I may need to look into printing this thread out and having it framed. I would also like ot point out that powder coating a sealing surface aslo does not work too well. There are a couple people around here that have done that and learned why it's not a good idea the slightly more difficult way. Quote
ToomeySheeLE Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 I would recommend that if anyone else has this done, be sure to have the PCer tape off your stud threads... Really sucks to have to use a die to clean them up again. And Be FUCKING careful cleaning off the gasket surfaces with a razor blade.. the aluminum surfaces cuts like butter.. Quote
