locogato11283 Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 why are you taking it somewhere? what needs done? you cant do it yourself? youll save a lot of money doing it yourself. plus youll learn a lot about your bike. Quote
Washburn Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 Doing it yourself is the ticket. I always figure Ill do it myself make sure to keep all of the parts bolts washers everything in order and if I mess it up Ill take it to my mechanic. Thats all internal shit. External stuff is easy if you keep track of what you did. Ive seen people with busted handle bars come in the shop and ask if he could fix it for them. He just says do it yourself it will be cheaper and more reliable with new parts instead of welded broke ass handlebars ect. Espically 2 strokes they arent exactly rocket science. Quote

By a Clymer Service Manual for $30, it will tell you everything you could ever want to know about your bike. It has step by step instructions to fixing anything and everything on the bike. Just don't loose the bolts and washers you take out, and you'll be all set! Or else, if your in NJ, you could bring it to me :yelrotflmao: . Good luck bro! Quote

You have to invest in a Clymers Manual. If you had one you would have had it done rite the first time. What costed you 200 dollars? Im guessing you took it to a Yamaha Dealer and they charged you 50 for the parts and 150 because you dont have a Clymers. I can get you a Clymers manual brand new for 21.50 shipped. Ebay also has them. RMATV Probably has them. Take your pick bro. Plus this site is a great way to get you through your projects. The only stupid questin is not asking one. Quote
ehenn34 Posted January 21, 2007 Author Report Posted January 21, 2007 def. not afraid to ask questions.... i m not mechanically sound at all w/ the shee... i posted my problems almost a month ago and got some feedback, but just didnt understand all to well.. in a nutshell the problems were: cable snapped, started the bike without cable it sounded like i was holdin in the throttle.. got new cable off ebay and installed it myself.. started it up and same problem.. but now i had white smoke out right exhaust and oil drippin and little sprayin out of it also... posted this and majority said it was probably a leak somewhere. dont know if i installed the cable wrong or what but i was told it wasnt a leak... they put on new cable and said carbs were messed up.... so who knows... like u said yamaha dealer ripped me off... live and learn i guess.... When your cable snapped it held the plates/slides open and you dident fix that before you put the new one in. Depending on how long you let it rev like that it could of blown a gasket or two but in no way does that justify 200 dollars. Ide go back to the shop and inquire about the list of work/parts they put in for you if you dont already have a detailed slip witch you should. The Clymers Manual has detailed information step by step instructions and pictures of everything involved. Well worth the 20-30 dollars. To save you thousands in the future.PM me if you need one Im picking a few up for sale on thursday or you can go on Ebay Rockymountainatv.com like I said Either way it is detremntal that you own one. I needed crank seals on my bike, and just for shits and giggles I called up a local Yamaha dealer to see how much it would run. I didn't really feel like splitting the cases, and blah blah blah. Got quoted $850 for crank seals. I just laughed, $80 and 6 hours later I had it done myself. Dealers charge an insane amount of money. Whenever I get some loot, I'm bout to open a Yamaha dealer ship, I wouldnt even have to sell any bikes, just jet a couple carbs, split a couple cases, and I'd allready break even for the year. :yelrotflmao: For real though bro, I started out working on bikes when I was 15 or so, I didn't even know how to use a ratchet when I started, I taught myself everything, it is a alittle frustrating at first, but it will come to you as long as you stick with it. HQ and Clymer help out a ton! It is very rewarding for me anyway to be able to fix my own stuff, saving the money is just an added bonus! Good luck! Quote
