downNdirty Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 ok so i need some advise from people who know there shit... back in oct. i was in an accident with my shee i blacked out and hit a tree. my problem is that i'm not sure what to do about the a-arm brackets that are welded to the frame. there bent. can they be just bent back? i know that bending alum can and most likely weaken them. does that mean i need to get a new frame and switch everything over. or do you think that having someone fab brackets is a good idea? any info would be greatly appreciated. letsgetthisdone Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Your brackets don't look bent, just your a-arms. Those should def. be replaced. And the brackets usually don't bend anyway, the bolt usually tears through them if you hit hard enuf. It looks like you should be fine with new new a-arms and a shock. Good excuse to get some +2+1 a-arms and some good shocks though  . Quote
downNdirty Posted January 7, 2007 Author Report Posted January 7, 2007 i just noticed that they dont look bent in the pic. but in person they do look bent, i'll try to take a better pic 2morrow. Quote
Karzy5150 Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 first things first its just bild steel not aluminum. second bending them back will probably make them bend again. Can you weld and would you trust your weld to hold with you riding your bike? If you could bend them back and brace them some how then weld the braces in then you would be fine with out getting another frame. Another thing you have to look into is that if you bend them back will you get them back where they need to go? The sad thing about all of this you did it on a banshee that doesn't even have pipes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
HotCarl Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Bend them back with a crestant wrench and then check for any cracks. If there are no cracks bolt an arm back on. If you do go with aftermarket ones then you can adjust out anything that isn't perfect. They are not bent enough to worry about fatigue. Quote
banshee freak Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 first off you cant just bend it back no matter what anyone says, i cant tell from the pic how bad it is but what i would do( im a welder/fabricator), is cut the bracket at the weld, grind it off and measure your otherside so that you can reposition it back into place...this is not a big job...any fabrication shop can do this job.....DONT waste your money and buy another frame Quote
