awesome info guys. i was riding this early spring and the rubber grommetts on the left side pipe broke which allowed my pipe to lay into my fender. melted it a little and yes i still have all my fenders. i dont have the nads to cut them. anyway while i was riding i noticed the pipe laying on the plastic and i reached down and pulled it closer to the motor. when i let go i noticed my finger tips on my gloves were melted to the pipe. i've just been riding it and not worrying about it but it looks like $hit and i want it gone. i didnt burn my fingers due to my occupation. i burn them all the time. anyway guys thanks for the info.

Go to walmart and look in the kitchen cleaner section where the polish for silverware and pots and pans is, they've got a rust remover in a small bottle for $4 or 5 dollars. It works on plated pots and pans so I know it will work on pipes. As far as the oven cleaner goes, it won't harm your pipes any, hobbyists that work with plastic figurines use it to remove paint and it doesn't even burn plastic.
