My banshee was hard to start one day, I got it started ran fine but I have not been able to get it started since, it just gets wet plugs everytime after trying to start it. I went throught the whole electrical system and everything checks out within specs. The carbs were cleaned and the seats were not leaking. It does spit gas out of the drain lines. The thing is it wont even fire, the carbs are syncd and the tors checked out as well, I'm starting to regret buying a jap quad :banghead:

Hang in there man, we all have troubles like this with these things sometimes. Its the nature of the beast.

Did you pull your plugs and kick it over and check to make sure you are getting a good strong spark? Just because everything checks out to spec with what your manual says doesn't always mean the part is good. check to make sure you are getting good spark.

Whats your jetting and mods? You sure your not too rich and drowning out your spark? It is possible. Too much gas and not enough air will make it so it won't even fire.

What's your compression? Done a check lately? When a top end starts to wear out, they will start to get to be a bitch to start sometimes.

Check and make sure you are getting a good STRONG spark, and check your pickup coil gap down by your flywheel.

Get back to us and let us know what you find.

EDIT: The spitting gas out of your over-flow lines is usually a float level problem. Check your float levels and adjust them to shut off gas a little earlier and see if that fixes it. If not, the seat on the valve the floats actuate may be getting worn.

if you carbs are setup properly you shouldnt really be able to flood the motor unless you kick it a bunch of times with the choke on and the ignition off or something like that.

yeah dude do what big red said, i had the same problem and i had brand spankin new plugs in mine gapped and everything and the beast wouldn't start... could not figure it out and then when i was about to give up i told my buddy to put in some old plugs that had been lying around adn sure enough the thing started on the first kick..... who would've thought that brand new plugs were junk... so yeah just becasue you check everything by a manual or somethng doesn't mean that its working, if you are getting a weak spark you prob wont be able to start the motor.... you need a good strong consistant spark.... hope that helps...good luck

Best way to start it is to get really really pissed and tell it how you feel with vulgar language... even in it doesnt start it will make you feel better :yelrotflmao: .... no not really, these guys will get you back to going... I was just messin' :)

Yeah, I drove 2 hours to go riding and it would'nt start, tried to fix it for a hour and half, got pissed and towed it down the road with the old faithful polaris 4x4 and popped the clutch to try to get it goin, hell at least I got to ride a little bit. I crank it over with out the plugs in with the run switch and key off and nothing comes out. the spark isnt as strong as my jet skis or ski doo but its just as much as when I got it, It would start in one-two kicks back then. so weak spark may be a problem. the only mod is a 370cc bore and it was supposably rejeted for that when it was done. I has about a 140 and 140 dead even after a few kicks. other than a k&n stock.

I only use the choke on the first two kicks, thats how it always would start, it is colder now though.

As far as gas goes, 92 premium 32:1 with stabil added with gas. It may as well be gettin two much gas and oil.

One problem I noticed in the past was the gas cap would always have gas escaping arount it.

I checked and reset the floats and they are free.

I tried changing plugs.

right now I have the gas tank and fenders pulled so I can get at everything.

I'm running out of Ideas and my sled doesnt work well in the dirt.

Check your compression. If you got it to run by popping the clutch, but can't get it to go by kicking it, maybe your compression is just too low. Do a compression check and see where its at. The fact that someone else suppoedly jetted it for the 370cc jobby is scary. Did they give you some chopped plugs to prove to you they did it right or did they just tell you... yeah, I know what I'm doing and throw some jets in there that they read off some stupid little que sheet they got with the kit.

You are probably just over-looking something simple. Take a day away from it and just forget it and come back later with a clear head and look over EVERYTHING again.

Did you check your pickup coil gap? Put in a set of new plugs, cut your coil wires back about a quarter inch and re-screw in your plug caps, check for a good ground at the coil and stator and CDI. Double check your plugs everywhere, check for good spark again, yank the carbs and check ALL your jets, clean the carbs again just for good measure, adjust your floats while you are in there too, check all the TORS junk, sync your carbs, check your compression....

If all else fails, give your shee to me. =)

compression is great at 140 on each side. My timing light was screwed up. I fixed the timing light, I have good spark on both sides on every kick. I sanded the paint to get a good ground and went through all of the electrical. It has to be carbs now, they are open to far or not far enough. I did try new plugs with no luck. I disabled the tors so they can't kill the machine,

anyone have a clue on what the jets should be, only engine mod is 370cc bore, k&n filter, otherwise no engine carb or exhaust mods.

I think the books spec for the float may be off, the guy before me din't know what he was doing with carbs, it ran fine it was a little rich but better than too lean.

It did NOT start by popping the clutch, I drove it down the road but it was powered by a polaris 4x4 with a 15ft tow strap.

when you towed it you got it started right? thats called poping the clucth ... just some fyi for you...

on stcok carbs i want to say the float hiegth should be 18mm... pull the carbs and take of the bowls... flip them upside down and get a micrometer and messure from the edge of the carb to the top of the bowl... thats your float hieght... if its not right it will casue problems...

also if your pilot is off you would be ale to kick it over... when i was running stock carbs i went from a 27.5 to a 32 pilot and it wouldnt kick over but i could tow it and it would start but wouldnt stay started... dropped back to 27.5 and i was fine...

Like I said earlier, It did NOT START BY POPING THE CLUTCH, IT DID NOT EVEN FIRE.

how much gap is thier supposed to be in between the main or pilot jets?

they are kind of loose looking and look like they may be letting two much gas through.

What are you guys running for premix? 32:1? :ninja:
