87banshee_rider Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Ok this is going to sound dumb but say u had a completely stock banshee and had one with a completely stock motor but put a 4 mil in it with no pipes or anything, just enough so it will work like shave the head. Would there actually be a power increase? and if so how much do u think there would be? Quote
csrmel Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 even with headwork you cant just put a 4mm in, the port timings you be fucked up. remember, change the stroke change the port timings. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 if you do the minumal motor work to accomidate for a 4mm storker i beilve the gains are about 7% over stock...nothing detramental... however i have never seen anyone run simply run it that way becasue you are starving the motor by not running bigger carbs. not to mention if your going to builkd a motor most ppl would do everything at one time rather then spreading it out over months... Animalman294 Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 There is a lot that needs to be done to get the motor to run good with a stoker. But if you don't change the rest of the air flow you are choking the motor down like stated above........... Quote
dajogejr Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 What you're basically asking us is...can I build a "Sleeper" style motor, drop in a drop in crank, and be noticeably faster? NO. You MIGHT get 7% or so out of it, but that's with a recut head, spacer plate...etc. And if you even mention stroker crank and STOCK pipes in the same sentence....you're wasting you time and efforts, to be honest. That motor needs to breath period, via carbs and exhaust....then porting. You will gain more by porting than you will a stroker crank. However, same can be said about porting. Wasting your time on stock exhaust.... Quote
Animalman294 Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 Dave's right, there is only so far you are going to be able to go if the "sleeper" mode is what you are aiming for. Which is a pretty pointless concept anyway, because after the first race the other guy will know that you are not runnin' a stock machine. The sleeper concept was from back in the day when people use to race for pinks and the sleeper was gonna spank the hopped up street-rod and win his wheels. But since not too many people race for pinks anymore its a mute point. Just build your ride and don't worry about what it looks like. I thought I wanted to run the sleeper too, until I started going to Hp ratings that required stronger parts, lock-up, extended arm, NOSS head and realized there is no way to hide the stuff. Well unless you want to replace stock parts all the time, because if the person knows anything about bikes they are going to know what you have (except for internals) just by looking............. Quote
Washburn Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 I agree. As far as the carbs go for a 4mill I dont see anything wrong with running the stock carbs. In fact you should have more low end that way. If your gonna create a sleeper to drag race its not gonna happen. and you will definatly need larger carbs. Quote
