smokin 2 stroke Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 ok i read on here somewhere saying u culd use like wall inslolation as packing dat it is the same Quote
BANSHEEMANIAC Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 i dont know about wall insulation??!! you can use fiberglass mat. you can get it from any auto parts store. ITS the same as bike packing, just alot cheaper. Quote
kubiac3 Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 In a round about way yes it is. It's rather ghetto but I use wall insulation sometimes when the local shop doesnt have any. Wall insulation isnt as dense as regular silencer packing so you will have to really pack that stuff in there for the same effect. Make sure you peel off the paper backing on it too. Quote
Fireman-hott Posted November 23, 2006 Report Posted November 23, 2006 Yep remove that paper backing, make sure the insulation is fiberglass and fire resistant. 1.5-2 wraps around the perforated pipe inside the silencer should be sufficient. Repack about every 10 hours of ride time give/take depending on the type of riding. Quote
smokin 2 stroke Posted November 23, 2006 Author Report Posted November 23, 2006 i repak it alll the time just got tirted of spending money on it lol im gettin cheap Quote
kubiac3 Posted November 23, 2006 Report Posted November 23, 2006 Any house insulation you buy is basically fire resistant, the high priced stuff that is marked as fire resistant is basically the company ran tests to prove it is fire resistant and comes with a letter that says it is. Its for builders where they have to prove to the city inspectors that it is fire resistant. Anyways you can get a big roll of it at lowes or home depot, i think its 30 bucks, should last you a LONG time. Its called R-13 insulation or R-19, dont buy R-30 or anything with numbers that high. Its twice as thick and you will have to peel half the insulation off to get it to fit into the silencer. Quote
cave Posted November 23, 2006 Report Posted November 23, 2006 Can someone explain the benefits of new packing? Is there a performance benefit or is it just a silencing of the exhaust? Quote

BANSHEEMANIAC Posted November 24, 2006 Report Posted November 24, 2006 yea, i didnt wont to start and argument, but he's right, it sucks. if you want something cheap, just go to a autoparts store and do what i said above. i know it works. i have been doing it for years. it is the same thing as what you buy in the bike shop, just cheaper.
