Good mourning, i use Toomey T6 pipes and stinger and i recently discovered a crack on one of my stinger. The crack is right next to the weld on the connecting part that fit on the pipe end. About 3/4 of an inch long. I temporaly fixed it with some fabric from an old exhaust clamps that i squeez onto it with the rubber clamp. Sorry i cant send picture, iam at work. I managed to reduce the leaking to a minimum but i am looking for a permanent fix like welding but i dont think chromed part are weldable. I ordered new clamps but i need something to seal the whole thing. So if you know any good stuff to fix that problem let me know.

chrome is weldable, the only thing is that it wont shine at that spot anymore afterwards....and it should be fairly cheap to fix.....if it is aluminum...then its a little more expensive but i would go ask any local shop.

Thanks what I was thinking too. A lot cheaper then buying new ones. Plus if it up by the hanger it should be somewhat hidden.

Yah i just talked with a welder and he told me that he can do it, remove the chrome first. Good to know that i can call Toomey but tell me if i can, cause i bought the pipes used, so no receipt no nothing. What they will do, replace my stinger??

Actually remove the chrome..the reason the welder told you to remove the chrome is because it is impossible to weld on CHROME....once u start welding over the chrome u will contaminate your weld which will make it weak or unweldable.....if you dont take the chrome off then the welder im sure will but charge u extra(so save yourself the headache and wire wheel it a bit where the crack is)

not correct... the welder gets so hot the chrome comes right off.. the weld WILL stick to the pipe but yes im sure it will be a tiny bit weaker then if it was bare metal.. but its on a pipe your not putting stress on it like a swingarm... i know for a fact the weld holds. polish had to do it on his pipes... its all about how migh you got your welder set if it will break though the top layer and bond both metals together or if it just melts the wire and sticks it on the metal like glue...

sorry man but if that is aluminum your not gonna be welding that with a wire...your gonna get it tigged which u absolutly need to have cleaned...ive worked in a fab and repair shop for 5 years and even when we fix aluminum nickel haulers we have to clean it with some kind of acid to make it bare......your best off cleaning

im not 100% but im pretty sure those pipes are steel like most pipes are...

edit: actually i know they are not alumin... alumin wont chrome...

Ok some more info for you guys, the welder is a guy i work with and he know how to weld trust me. So cost of the job = free. Removing chrome is like you said to have no contamination, the more cleaner the better the result, and also because chrome is toxic for you. And material is steel or stainless. At first i was looking for something else than welding but finally its the best way to go and it started a post on welding wich is good.

:thanks:

Its gonna just be a mild steel under the chrome. Remove the chrome/copper/nickle coating no need to screw with that especially since its in a high vibration area and the contaminated weld will be very susceptable to re-breaking. As far as the bare spot left, you can try a local specialty paint store some can order you a spray paint can of ceramic based with a chrome color that will withstand 1200* and should suffice at the location without bubbling.

Good Luck.
