Satsol67 Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 I'm trying to get my flywheel off and I need some suggestions. I have the puller and have it threaded all the way in but when i try to get it off I have to turn the shit out of it and I am scared I'm going to mess something up. I have the topend off and put a 3/8's extention throught the rods but I am worried if i keep trying i am going to mess up the rods or the crank. I dont have an impact driver so i'm just using elbow grease. My question is if i keep doing it this way will i mess something up? If so any suggestions would be great. Thanks Ron Quote
sand4ever Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Is the motor still in the bike? IS the chain still on? put in gear and strap a tire so it cannot move. Then try again. Maybe some one else has a better idea. Quote
kb7kuh Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 I would say if the motor is out of the frame, take it to a repair shop and heve them do it. They shouldent charge much for that. Mine came right off, but friends have had a hell of a time getting theres off. Good luck Quote

NEVER SATISFIED Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Motor is still in the frame. I'm going to try putting it in grear. Thanks Ron I USED A TIE DOWN STRAP... RATCHET STYLE.. WRAPED IT AROUND THE FLYWHEEL.. GRABBED AHOLD OF THE EXCESS STRAP AND TIED IT TO THE FRAME SO THAT WHEN IT TURNS WHILE UR TAKING IT OFF IT WOULDNT MOVE.. AND WHAMO.. CAME RIGHT OF.. Quote
Satsol67 Posted November 17, 2006 Author Report Posted November 17, 2006 Well that didnt work. I guess I will just wait and take it up to the shop and let them do it with an impact. Quote

Good luck My buddy and I took his off by putting an extension through the rods and then just stepped on the wrench really quick to jolt the bolt and loosen it. It didn't hurt his. Quote

EVEN THE IMPACT WONT TAKE IT OFF.. U CAN GO GET A RUBBER STYLE OIL FILTER REMOVER AND USE THAT TO HOLD THE FLYWHEEL.. USUALLY TAKES 2 PEOPLE My buddy and I took his off by putting an extension through the rods and then just stepped on the wrench really quick to jolt the bolt and loosen it. It didn't hurt his. Thanks Ron Doesn't your flywheel puller have wrench flats on it? So that you can thread it in until it bottoms, then put a wrench across the flats to hold it from twisting while you tighten the screw that applys pressure against the end of the crank. Surely you can tighten it till it pops loose... Quote

LiftdT4R Posted November 18, 2006 Report Posted November 18, 2006 Hell yeah, I was going to say, the easy way is to use the wrench part of the puller, or else, for my YZ80, I bough a flywheel holder from pepboys. Has 2 rubber coated bolts on scissor style arms that go through the whole in the face of the flywheel. That and some good old fashioned muscle. I did the timing mods on my 01 and 02, and both were a bitch and half! Quote
