What is the best way to cut the threads to do a plug chop. I have used a couple methods and I can't help but think that there is a better way.

I'm not really understanding the question. I may be stupid! I thought a plug chop is when you're trying to see if your shee is running rich or lean. I thought you get the shee into 6th gear and wot then you hit the kill switch then you pull the spark plugs and see what color they are, should be light brown and dry. I hope this helps or you can tell me I'm stupid and I'll shut the hell up!!!

he is talking about the same thing, only a plug chop you cut the threads off the plugs and see the little smoke ring on the porciline... should have a small ring 2mm big up i there...

got a small hand held hacksaw and clap it in a vice if you got one... they arnt too hard to cut but the metal isnt by any means weak... you got to put a little umpff in that ass lol

Why would you go through all that trouble when you already know the shee is lean. I've never done that and all my bike are jetted perfectly!

you shouldnt be able to see any discoloration at the bottom in that fast of a run... the carbon settles up inside the threads.... so you warm up on old plugs, put in new plugs pull a 6th gear and kill it wot and pull your plugs... throw your old ones back in a ride back and then cut them... if your "perfect" then when you cut the threads there will be a small brown ring about 2mm in size a little more then half way up the porciline.

correction its not 2mm in size its 2mm up the thread is where it should be at..!!!

Damn all that!!!! I just put new plugs in and do a couple of passes and then pull the plugs and by then if your not way lean the plugs should look like there starting to turn a light brown, not completely brown but should look like its starting to turn! What happens when you cut the plug and your lean then you move the jets up and do it again, thats a waste of spark plugs IMO!! Also if you're that scare the shee is going to blow up because of a couple of passes being lean then richen it up first, I think its better to start rich and then lean it out!!! Thats just me!

very true but once your in there your in there you dont have to worry about it...your posed to start rich and move down... plugs are 1.89 per.. stop buying them at the bike shop and go to pep boys!

mine bike is runing rich right now.. so id drop 2 jets more then likey and run a plug chop and go from there.. once im there then i dont have to worry about fouling plugs or being too lean...

Actually this thred is about the PLUG CHOP METHOD.......so Banshee-man is right

its one e BEOTCH!

i dont do plug chops.. i just do like your saying run them a few passes and if the plug is dark then lean it out and try again... but for ppl that drag race they dont want to waste time and sacfirice power so the plug chop WILL get your jetting PERFECT vice being close enough

Hey Bansh-eman, does this dude know you or is he really that big of a clown????!!!!!????!??!?!? :banghead:

Anyways if he is serious...

What Bansh-eman described is the best and most accurate way the majority of people determine weather their main jet is "right".. The reason you make one solid pass at WOT like described above is to (the best you can) rule out the other "carb circuts"(pilot, needle) to get a accurate reading on only the main jet.. Otherwise a "few passes" can mask whats going on with your main jet due to other carb circuts making the plug look rich or lean.
