kubiac3 Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 So I was wondering if you can get a replacement title for your shee. Mine is a 95, when i bought it the guy never had one, I have a bill of sale though from the guy i bought it from. I was wondering if I can take the VIN's down to secretary of state and get a new title. Also if for some reason my shee is hot, do they just take it away? Ive had it for about 6 years now and I just finished my rebuild on it so i think i would cry if that happened. thanks for the help. Quote
djackbanshee Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 You could get new titles if the VIN is clear. If ever its hot, well you would loose your bike + Since you have a bill of sale the guy who sold it to you would get in trouble , he would be responsible for selling you something stolen . Quote
ClimbAnyHill Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 I registered my Banshee and receeived my title in the mail simply by walking into the dmv with a bill of sale. Quote
Justintoxicated Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 No offense, but why did you wait 6 years to find out if your bike was stolen or not... Might as well take it in and ease your mind, and if not the guy you bought it from will be in for a world of hurt and get what he deserves. Quote

When I got it I was 14, I wasnt really to worried about having a legal bike and what not, a year later I stripped the bike down and started rebuilding the whole thing, im just about finished with the rebuild after about 4 or 5 years and I realized last night that my bike never had a title, now that im 20 it bothers me that my bike doensnt have a title. It is my understanding that some states still don't title off road vehicles. Some states started titling more recently. For Louisiana, you can make a statement before a notary that you have been in possession and get a title, but only for vehicles older than like 1980 or 1982 (I don't remember cut-off date). Anyway, check your DMV's web-sight. It usualy has more information than the person behind the counter. They have regulations they are expected to follow. Sometimes, you can come in with a printout of the regs from the web-sight, and git neat stuff done (like street title for 1996 KDX200 2-smoke). Quote
Wallrat Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 In California, which has pretty strict registration laws, you can get a new title if you have a bill of sale from the last registered owner. So if this guy's name is on the title, you're in the clear. If not, bummer dude. Quote
