Bansh88 Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 Some guys use dish soap. A buddy used to use gasoline. I've always run K&N's so I can't help Quote
Animalman294 Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 I do the same thing, dip it over, and over in gas and squeeze it out. then let it dry then coat it with oil again............... Quote
BANSHEEMANIA Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 (edited) Be careful not to apply too much oil. It can clog the filter and cause you to foul plugs. I put about a cap full or a little more in a plastic bag and rub it together to coat the bag. Then I put the filter in the bag and rub it around to get an even, light coat of oil. You only need enough to leave a light residue on your finger when you touch it. I've used mineral spirits from Home Depot to clean my filter with no problem, but I'm not positive that its ok to use. Toomey Racing told me to use soapy water, but that does't seem to work very well to me. Companys like Twin Air and K&N sell jugs of foam filter cleaner. My buddy got a kit that came with like a 2 gallon bucket of cleaner with a strainer in the bottom, and oil came with it too. Edited August 1, 2006 by BANSHEEMANIA Quote
TREELIZARD Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 (edited) I always used a old bucket and put some dawn dish soap in it with some hot water and wash the filter out then set it in the sun untill its dried, then spray it with filter oil and put it back on. if you dont have the oil in the aerosol can. then get a plastic bag and drop your air filter in the bag, then pour some oil into the bag and then work the oil and filter around in the bag untill the filter has a light coat of oil all over it. but remember you dont want the filter dripping with oil you want a light even coat. hope this answers your questions Edited August 1, 2006 by TREELIZARD Quote
tonyown Posted August 2, 2006 Author Report Posted August 2, 2006 thank you all I now have a good idea to how I'll do it! Quote
Animalman294 Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 Hey, I like that plastic bag idea. That sounds like it does a pretty good job if you don't have the aerosol canned oil............ Quote
dawarriorman Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 Gas works great, but slowly destroys the filter. Best thing I've found is PJ1 cleaner and oil in aerosol cans. Cleaner works great, just spray and let it sit for 15 minutes, then wash with water (and soap if necessary). And the aerosol oil is SOOO much easier than stuff in a bottle. Just spray inside and out until its coated, then knead the filter. Do it a couple times and you'll never over or under oil a filter. Quote
