Hummah2 Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 Im going to be rebuilding my quad basically transfering everything over from my old frame to my new frame. I was wondering how much of a pain in the ass this will be and if I will need any special tools.. Thanks. Also any recomendations would be great Thanks you. Quote
Dinner Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 (edited) What all are you swapping over? Is it an already rolling chasis or are you swapping every single thing. And i'm pretty sure you will not need and special tools. Pretty much everyone has had their quad down to the frame and then put it back together. And no need for any special tools, well i didnt use any specials ones. I just finished putting like 3/4 of mine together this morning with a friend and it took like 2 hours. Mostly just got to make sure you remember how everything is placed, etc and away you go. Edited July 24, 2006 by Dinner Quote
Hummah2 Posted July 24, 2006 Author Report Posted July 24, 2006 [Nope im doing everything my old frame broke so I am moving everything over except a-arms got new ones because they broke too.. actually the a-arms led to the frame braking. anyway. yea hopefully it wont be too bad. Any recomendations with pulling the motor out or anything that gave you a bit of a hard time??? Quote
DRI4life Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 the main pain in the ass is the steering stem bearing.. you will need some sort of tool. the hammer and flathead driver trick works sometimes but beware.. after that its all down hill imo.. the motor is easy to pull and if you have any ?s, post up... iv done it ten times Quote
Hummah2 Posted July 25, 2006 Author Report Posted July 25, 2006 [yea im hoping it all goes smooth. The only other thing is pulling the pipes and putting them back on is there anything to that or what?? Thanks for everyones help; Quote
Dinner Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 When i take out the engine, i pull off the carbs, take out spark plugs, all the hoses and then take out all holding bolts. I take it out from the Stator side, not sure if this is easier than the other, but thats how i do it. And for the pipes and silencers, (if you are taking off the left side, turn the wheels to the right, it gives you more room to remove that side pipe, and for the right side pipe, turn the wheels to the left)...Take off the springs, loosen the screws that hold the silencer and pipe together, and then losen the bolt under the front plastics on the pipes. Then slide the pipe out of the connector at the silencer and at the same time pulling down and taking the pipe of the cylinder. For the silencers, unscrew the bolts that are holding them up, then slide the silencer(and piping with it) back towards the back of the quad. So you will pull them out between the airbox(if still there) and frame. Hope this helps  Dinner Quote
kman96 Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 (edited) the main pain in the ass is the steering stem bearing.. you will need some sort of tool. here is the tool i made for the steering stem bearing holder, you mine as well get a new bearing while your at it, but i made this tool using a simple bolt and two nuts from and local hardware store, and welded the nuts to the bolt so it wouldn't break loose. welding the nuts is not required as long as you can keep the nuts tight on the bolt. using this tool made installing the steering stem bearing and holder a breeze. i am currently in the same process as you right now, i switched all of my stuff over from an old frame to a new one except i am using a whole lot of new parts. i am hoping to get it all done by this weekend. you don't need any special tools. just make sure you lable and separate all the bolts so you remember where they go. most importantly take your time and have fun with it, and make sure you torque everything to the right specs. good luck, pm me if you have any questions. heres a pic of the steering stem tool, and my progress. -kyle ps you always end up spending more moeny than you plan :baseball_bat: pic of the tool my bike progress Edited July 25, 2006 by kman96 Quote
