Ok, I ordered the pieces and its all on its way:

AMD 64X2 4200 processor, A8N-SLI MB (Asus), WD 320 Gb Caviar SATA HD, Asus 1900XT 512Mb video card, a HP lightscribe DVD burner ( have a dual layer already if needed), 550 watt power supply. I will recieve all this stuff Tuesday. I am sooo Pumped. I also have a kick ass case on its way. I will of course run XP pro. And when Vista comes out next year, I will probably get into that. But I dont feel like testing out my new system with MS (on their free trial wear of the new Vista OS), because I want something more stable untill then. Any comments on any Hardware that I purchased?? All the reviews from newegg looked good on all of those components... Oh yea I bought 4 Gigis or ram for the MB. So It will be maxxed out right away on RAM. Oh wait yea,, It all didnt cost me a penny,,, Work paid for it...... Hummm. Yea Im a happy boy. And I didnt have to kiss ass to get it.

See ya

What kind of ram, and how many sticks? If its 4 sticks, your going to be running at reduced speed. The AMD64 memory controller can only run 4 sticks at 333 mHz. Its better to just run 2 x 1 GB sticks than 4. 2 gigs is more than enough, and having more ram won't make up for the speed difference. Im running a similar system, and 2 gigs is more than enough.

Other than that it looks fine, other than the whole winblows part. True geeks run linux (or BSD).

i would have liked to get another video card but, at 380$ I will wait and get another after the system has been up and running. Since I didnt have to pay for the RAM I figured I would max out the board and run it dual channel. will let ya know how it turns out, once I get all the pieces.

I like the idea that Vista will be a vector-based graphics OS but, frankly I can't go out & get any MS product until the first service pack is out. Or at least, can't put it on a production pc. I'm thinking Vista will be a good upgrade though after the service pack.

By then I think I'll be on linux pretty much 90% of the time. The new Debian and Suse builds are pretty slick.

The areo is doing well, It has been 900+ miles of sheer pleasure. I still need to take her in for the first tune up (been raining like crazy in Pittsburgh). But I just got her up to 95 today in the pouring rain, what a fun time that was... No windshield... My face had needles pricking it, but it all goes numbe after awhile. Went around drinking beer from bar to bar with a buddy of mine.. Hows your bike? How many miles do you have on it now?

I guess since this is a pc-geek thread I'd post the monster I built last fall. (at least it was a monster then. now it's ancient in computer years).

P4 3.0 GHz, Radeon 9550, 1.5 GB RAM, 360 GB hd's (a 200 & a 160gb), tv card, Soundblaster Live 5.1 (not the value card), water cooled, dvd burner, and some fancy red lights.

Lol, I hadnt got the balls to ride in the rain or ride after drinkin. I've got 800 on mine. The last 100 with the new pipes have been the best. I'd reccomend some vance & hines cruizers. Damn, they sound good.

You outta be good with just an oil and filter change. Thats what I did after the recommended 600 miles.

Thats a cool box, Lee. My pc, I've got all my shit stuffed in one of those acrylic, uv cases with some blue cold cathode neon tubes in it. Looks pretty sweet.

i was thinking of building another computer but i think im gonna save up for one of those new macbook pros. i do a lot of music editing type crap so i want garage band and the simplicity of macs os. but you can also boot windows for games and good ol windows reliability and viruses. its got 2 intel chips which is fun. a few years ago i had an AMD 3000, 1 gig of DDR333 memory, a Gigagbit motherboard with an 800mhz FSB, an 80gig maxtor hdd, and i went through a Geforce 5900, ATI X800, another 5900, and another 5900 before i realized that the motherboard was shorting them out. i havent had my own computer since then.
