ok so here is the deal and any help is greatly appreciated. 01 w/vito's supeerstock .040 dyna ign.stock carbs and jugs. after adding the ign i decide i should re jet the bike it started runing kinda hot and poped the cap off of the overflow a few times. So i have the same mechanic that put the motor together come and jet the bike well one of the times he started the bike it idle fine he gave it gas a few time and all of a sudden the bike reved to the moon flip the kill switch nothing the bike slowly wound back down and stoped afteer going back over the bike he "fixes" the problem it actually runs pretty decent aside from the carbs being out of sync some so i take it down the road and it feels slower than before. put hte bike up and the next day put the cool head on the bike start it up and it runs the same as before kinda out of sync so i gave a call to a different mechanic that has delt with a few of these bikes in the area. I ask him to jet the bike correctly and basically get me back running strong he ends up going up to a 30 pilot and a 340 main and it seemed to be runing great but on the forth time he started it he gve it a few blips of the throttle then it reved to the moon and back the same way as before. It slowly died after the kill switch, he then pulled the stator side cover off and checked for play in the crank and said that side was ok and it was the clutch side crank bearing gone bad that caused the bike to do that. There is no noise or any other kind of abnormal behavior from the bottom end or any part of the bike for that matter. So i am thinking that there is some kind of leak on the base gasket or something else that i am missing not a crank bearing

Do you have an aftermarket head? I know when I had detonation it sounded like the bike was revving like crazy, I could even kill the switch + pull the plug wires and it'd still "run"

what was the problem passion99 im using a hemi head 20cc domes but it did the same thing before and after the head istall.and only after the bike ws warm and only one time each time

Well for one, it almost sounded like the throttle was pinned, but it was like a buzz sound. Not quite the normal banshee rev. I just needed to run higher octane fuel. Goto google and find out the elevation you ride at. Your compression may be too high for pump fuel. May just need some race gas.

I think by Pressure test he ment a leak down test. you Plug your cylinders exhaust and carbs and pump some air into them (I can't remember the recomended pressure but it's not much) You also have to seal up the carb side. Basicaly you have an attachment for an air compressor and a gauge to see the air pressure, if the pressure drops you have an airleak check gaskets/seals/o-rings etc

I'm not understanding how your mechanic thinks it is a bearing on the crank without splitting the cases unless there is something your not telling us.

The high rev must have either been caused by your carb slides sticking (or the cable) or else you have an airleak.

i am at sea level or just a bit higher maybe 100ft. im in VA. near the coast with 20cc domes but the same thing happened with the stock head on the bike. I think i have an air leak some where just gotta take time to tesst it

yeah the leak down test is at 6psi but they say that normal leak of 1psi per minute is acceptable. when the biek started to rev did you look to see if both cylinders were firing. sometimes it seems likeboth are but really one side is firing and the other is jjust pushing air out the pipe cause of the compression stroke. definatly do a leak down test and also a compression test then let us know if they check out. what is the timing on the bike?

there were a few times when one cylinder didnt seem to be firing but after tweeking the carbs they both livened up.i have a dyna it was on drag but i put it back to stock and just ran my key a +7.no compression test or leak down yet but bike is running very strong. Is there any one thing that would cause one to fire and not the other?
