96dragbanshee Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Ok i just got finished redoing my bike. I had the motor professionally rebuilt by trinity. I stripped down the frame and powdercoated it. I went to start it last night and the damn thing idled so high that it sound like it was running in the powerband in neutral with no throttle at all. What could cause this. Is it jetting or streching the trottle cable wrong. Or just need to adjust the screws on side of carb. Give me some help. Quote
sheefreak Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Need to look at the slides and see if they are closed when not giving it gas. Sound like your cable adjustment is off, or could possibly be idle adjustment. Do you have the TORS setup still? Quote
kb7kuh Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Sounds like the slides are in backwards to me also. Quote
Nighty Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Yeah, take the air filter out and take a peak. maybe the slides of your carb are inserted the wrong way. Also make sure the choke tube is connected between the carbs. Quote
Nighty Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Great minds think alike ... lets hope we are right Quote
96dragbanshee Posted May 19, 2006 Author Report Posted May 19, 2006 For all that thought the slides were in backwards this was not the problem. This is originally what i thought it was. So i checked that isnt right. I still have the TORs on my quad. The choke tube is hooked up. Is there anything else like a dirty carb that could cause this problem?? Quote
Animalman294 Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 You may want to check your throttle cable............... Quote
96dragbanshee Posted May 19, 2006 Author Report Posted May 19, 2006 check what on my throttle cable. The part that runs from the throttle or where it splits into 2 lines for the carbs? And what do i need to look for. Quote
kb7kuh Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 1st are the slides going all the way down? 2nd did you disconnect the tors plugs? If you disconnect the plugs, you will have trouble with the idle. What size jets you have in there? Quote
ssanddemon Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 Running lean will make it rev to the moon without throttle as well. Got gas going to the carbs? Quote
96dragbanshee Posted May 20, 2006 Author Report Posted May 20, 2006 well guys i have 27.5 pilots and 300 mains i am in missouri. Jetting has never been a problem in the passed. I talked to my mechanic and he said to check the reeds. So i will do that. The tors is non existant. I have mikuni 34mm carbs. The throttle cable has tonnes of free room the slides are totally in and still the same. I was told air leak was the most probable cause. Tomorrow i am going to make an order of new reeds and seals for the intake and see if that works. Anyone got any ideas for reeds what to go with and what not to go with. Quote
ssanddemon Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 (edited) Easy: V-force! Edit; you should still make sure there is plenty of gas getting to the carb! Edited May 20, 2006 by ssanddemon Quote
Rustbag Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 (edited) Could be an air leak making it run lean. Check the base gasket too. Edited May 22, 2006 by Rustbag Quote
kb7kuh Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 My v-force 2 reeds were leaking on the corners (rounded off) and it was allmost inpossable to start. I put the stock reeds in and it was fine, i ended up with new v-force 3 reeds because the replacement reeds for the 2's were allmost as much as buying the new 3's Quote
