harley_sr Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Ok just seeing if you guys can help?? Here is a list of my mods. 2001 Banshee Fresh .20 over pistons Dune/ Trail Port or maybe a drag port toomey t-5's V-force III reeds Prodesign Billet intake w/ K&N Reed spacers Boost Bottle Adjustable Ricky Stator Timing Plate (not sure on what deg. to set it on) Milled stock head (prob. .30) Lightened flywheel. Will my stock carbs do the job? I will get new ones as soon as I can afford them, but I dont want to take a chance screwing up my new motor. When Iam ready to get carbs what is a good set to buy? And what size? Quote
flanders Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 (edited) stock carbs will work fine with that setup, depending on your port you should be running give or take about 350 /32.5's... but always start fat and go down. I know a few people runnin stock carbs on around 60hp shees and theyve been runnin em for years. as far as ruining your motor, i would be more concerned with the timing and milled head. check and see how advanced the timing is, personally i wouldnt go above +5... predet is a bad thing. also, i have seen two milled heads go out becuase there was a pin hole in the stock cast, and when they milled it, well, lets just say they bought a cool head shortly thereafter. if you decide to get carbs anyway, i would get some pwk 28's with that setup... if youre plannin on goin with a stroker in the future, i would wait and just get some 32-34's when the time comes Edited March 31, 2006 by flanders Quote
harley_sr Posted March 31, 2006 Author Report Posted March 31, 2006 Well for the timing I was planing on running +2 or maybe +4 at the most Quote
lowriderb Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 you can run the stockers for now, though you would gain more by going with bigger carbs with port work. for now with porting the stockers should get you by.. Quote
Wicked98Shee Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 (edited) ya the stock carbs will run fine ..... ya will see a topend gain with sum bigger carbs tho. i would start out @ 350 main , 30 pilot, middle clip position, just my .02 Edited March 31, 2006 by Wicked98Shee Quote
harley_sr Posted March 31, 2006 Author Report Posted March 31, 2006 The guy doing the top end for me said I would prob be good at a 310 main, stock pilotswith toomey needles. Also talked to a guy at toomey and he said pretty close to the same thing. I am at a loss, looks like I will try the stock carbs for now, but I think I will just order from 300-350 mains and got to town on the jetting.. Quote
twincylinder Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Well with the mods in my sig before i went to my 35mm carbs i was running 390's with 30 pilot in the stock carbs if tahts any help to you. Quote
flanders Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 whats your elevation? if you ran 310's with your setup @ sea level or thereabouts, things would get ugly in a hurry. toomey suggests 270-280's with just pipes, when around here pipes alone should be running at the very least 300's. you can always go down if ya need to, but once ya lean it out, its much more expensive to go back up. letsgetthisdone Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 I say ditch the boost bottle and start at 350/32.5 just like thes other guys are sayin. My neighbor is runnin almost that same setup but we live in Vegas with about 2,200ft eleveation so it wouldn't hurt to start out rich cuz plugs are way cheaper than pistons. Quote
