SM0KIN Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 I am looking to purchase a used banshee within the next week or so, but I am reluctant to do so since I lack the common knowledge/terminology to establish whether said purchase is in fact a sound choice. The bike of interest is a 1996, new plastic, seat, fmf pipes, power core, silencers, dg bumper, bandit tires. The dude wants right around 2K give or take. Mind you I have not heard it run, nor do I know it's maintenance history, but from the way the gentleman spoke of the bike, it would be surprising if it hadn't been treated well. I guess my question is...what would you guys do? Does anyone know of inherant problems of that manufacture date? Or any qualities that would make this bike a good buy? -Scott Quote
SM0KIN Posted March 30, 2006 Author Report Posted March 30, 2006 LOL I am not sure of your intentions, but I am not looking to get it bought out from under me. What does it matter where I am located? Quote
txblueshee Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Not beat to shit would be a great start... You can pick up an 01+ for chump change since the value is in the gutter... Mike Quote
SM0KIN Posted March 30, 2006 Author Report Posted March 30, 2006 So the value of these bikes has gone down? I had one when I was younger, but it was brand new and servicability was not an issue. I don't want to pick up a heap of shit and then have to keep dumping cash in to keep it running. How much are these 01+ that you speak of? I have been looking around and I see some ensane prices being thrown around. -Scott Quote
Hilarious Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 2 g's prolly isnt too bad a price, depending on what shape the bike is in. You probablly gonna be putting a new top end in it and making other modifications to it along the way. So keep that in mind too. I think the banshee has stayed pretty much the same since about 91'. with the only changes being colors and tailight. But I have noticed much later models going for same price. I'd say if the bike looks good to you, get it. Banshees are hella fun. And this is the place to get info on them. Quote
stclark816 Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 It matters where you are located because in different places they are worth more. Say, in California, they are worth more over that way than say, Missouri.I could prolly take a 2001 that I bought here for $2000 and sell it there for like $3000+. Ive picked up a couple banshees for 2g's and under. The last one I bought was a 2001, very good shape, and I only payed 2 grand for it. The guy was needing money. I would wait a while and not jump on the first thing you see. There's always a better deal out there somewhere, just takes some time to find it sometimes. Quote

What does it matter where I am located? 494827[/snapback] don't be so paranoid. he might just be offering to check it out for you. most people here have a banshee already. additionally, the price on a banshee varies by location. here in oregon, if you get a decent banshee 1991 or newer for under $3500, that's a steal. other places, you can get the same bike for half the price. SM0KIN Posted March 30, 2006 Author Report Posted March 30, 2006 Yeah it's not like it matters that much...I am in MA. I'm looking online now with prices and stuff...I see the variance of price depending on geographical location. Guess it's just like cars. So where can I find the specs for that particular year on this website? Or should I just do a google? -Scott Quote
CombatTalon2 Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 what specs are you looking for? for the most part banshees are all the same stock. older ones had differant A Arms up front (J arms). Quote
SM0KIN Posted March 30, 2006 Author Report Posted March 30, 2006 Top speed, rated HP, etc...just looking to compare them to other models out there. In comparison, would there be better bikes out there for the money? -Scott Quote

If the shee is in good shape that would be hard to beat. as far as speed and HP. 70ish for top speed and 30HP or so. Depends what mods it has and all that. Quote
