05Special Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 ive heard people say ride like your gonna ride it right from the start, i heard let it heat up[ and cool a few times, what do you guys do? i normally just go real easy on like 1 1/2 tanks of gas Quote
dawarriorman Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 Heres my take on it. I take it easy at first for a tank or 2 of gas. At 500 ft above sea level with 21cc domes, I have 153 lbs in both cylinders, which is pretty much the highest I could possibly get. Ride all out if you want, but the rings aren't going to "seat better". That and most people seem to base their "balls to the wall break in" on Mototuneusa.com . And that guy is a fucking moron. Im not going to get into everything about him, but I'll just say this: anybody that thinks they can get more hp out of a superbike than the factory race teams that designed and built the thing is retarded. And that guy from that site thinks that he knows more about the engines than the people that designed them. Trust him if you want. Quote
dajogejr Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 Once it's all together, I'd start it up and blip the throttle slightly till she gets warmed up. Blipping the throttle circulates the water faster, faster warm up. Let it cool down. Do this again, and let it cool down. Then, recheck the torque on the head and base nuts/bolts. For the first tank of gas...probably not a good idea to ride balls to the wall, rev it out a little, try not to stay at the same RPM for too long. Vary your speeds. I don't buy the break it in like you stole it thing, either....not on my dime anyhow... Quote
daryn c Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 i crank it up , let it warm up for liek 30 seconds. then take off and ride it like you would normally ride but dont keep it in the high rpms(7k +) for no longer than 1-2 seconds, cuz its such a new engine it would crystalize the rings which that is not a good thing! basically all the engines are 50% broke in , cuz they test all the engines before they put them in the bike Quote
AZ Olie Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 OK this is how I break in my engine's, 1st bring up to operating temp, giving short blips of the throttle now and then. Let cool down, I do this 3 time's. The fourth time I ride it mellow for 15 minutes, then I keep increasing the throttle to about 3/4 for another 15 minutes, after that I start cracking it wide open on short durations untill I hit reserve, fill with my tank up and ride with moderation... After I hit reserve the 2nd time, I fill up and ride till my heart's content... The key is not to let the engine rpm's stay the same for any period of time, but in the same process you don't want to scour the cyl's with out seating the ring's properly... After all that you should be good to go... Olie Quote
