Meat Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 the '85 and '86 ATC motors are identical to the '86 TRX motors, but starting in '87 the TRX motors used different porting layout. The '88 and '89 TRX motors have alot more differences from the '85 &"86 ATC's. Along with clutch updates and different porting, the '88\"89 used a longer connecting rod. everything should be interchangable between the years, you'll just need the correct parts to make things work.... like a spacer place under the jug for short rod motors, etc. Quote

Sometimes you do not have to state how much experience you have looking up parts. You just have to say "microfiche" and everyone knows. I'm willing to bet many of the early 20 somethings on here do not even know what that is (nor care). Suzuki was the four-wheel leader way back until Honda introduced the first 4x4 model. I think the first TRX250R hit the dealerships in the fall of 1985, right? It was branded a 1986. ... Then in 1987 Yamaha released the first 'Shee and nothing else mattered... Quote

Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 listen to what meat said and make sure you talk to someone who knows what they are talking about if you go ordering connecting rods/cranks and all that good stuff. Last thing you'd want is to kick it over for the first time and the piston is hitting the head and you gotta rip the whole thing apart again and get the right parts Quote
