Bird Eyes Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 I do a lot of trail ridding & puddle jumping so I need some protection on my air filter. Should I go to a stock air box? How badly will that hurt my performance? And last but not least I will have to rejet correct? My current mods are listed in my profile. Thanks for your help, Jason Quote
Animalman294 Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 Yes, if you put the stock box back on you are going to hurt your performance, and yes, you are going to have to rejet because you are changing the amount of air that is let into the motor (more restriction if you put the box back on). Plus you should get into the habit of checking your jetting any time you change anything dealing with fuel or air flow. Hope this helps........... Quote
Hilarious Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 Put the box on and run it without the lid. That is of course if you have the adapter flange with clamp on air filter assembly. And re-jet for those mods. Quote

banshee tuner Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 With the plug out don't that let the water in and only keep the splashes out when you get in deep. Quote
Bird Eyes Posted January 27, 2006 Author Report Posted January 27, 2006 Thanks too all for your input. Thats what I thought I would have to do. I like the performance where it is at but I guess you can't have both. I am not that experianced of a rider anyway so the loss of performance to gain a running quad through the mud & water will be the best for me. Now off to e-bay to find a used pro flow box. Thanks again guys. Quote

What is the difference? Does the pro flow have better flowing intake tubes? Quote
Hilarious Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 (edited) The pro flow intake system we are talking about is a modification that you perform to your stock air filter box. It's an aluminum flange plate adapter that allows you to use a clamp on air filter in your stock air filter box. Thus allowing you to remove the lid for better air flow. The adapter with air filter usually runs about 100 bucks just about anywhere you look, brand new. I've seen them on ebay, used, for like 50 bucks and up. Also I've seen people selling their air boxs with the pro flow flange modification for 50 bucks and up. I'm guessing that you dont have an air filter box at all? I think i saw a complete air filter box with the flange adapter somewhere's on ebay. This may be what you are looking for. Edited January 27, 2006 by Hilarious Quote

When I bought it used it came with a 2 into 1 adapter that angles the filter upright. Thanks for the info... I'll make sure it has the flange plate before I buy. I should be able to use my other clamp on foam filter yes? Oh and how long can you keep cleaning & oiln' foam filters? When you notice the foam to be breaking down? Sorry for so many questions... I'm a newbie ofcoarse. Thanks again. Quote
Hilarious Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 I dont know if the 2:1 filter will fit the flange. You'll know when the filter needs to be replaced, just like you said, when the foam starts to break down and fall apart. Replace it ASAFHP. Everyone starts out as a NOOB. Quote
MILO Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 bird eyes, rocky mountain seems to be one of the best places to deal with for general aftermarket stuff, that's where i got my pro-flow set up. if you buy it new, it comes with the filters. unless you find a good deal on ebay for the box, or pro-flow, or both, i'd ask around the hq for a box. i'm sure there are lots of guys who have ditched their's from their shee too. a new box from the stealer ship will probably run you around $60. don't bother with the lid though, you don't need it with the pro-flow unless you get into water over the level of the air box. and don't worry, like hilarious said, we were all noobs once Quote
