hinson clutch basket instalation

My stock clutch basket has play in gear and the basket, so I am looking for a hinson and I was wondering how the gear connects to the basket and if i will be able to do it my self. thanks

yes you can do it yourself, the stock gear is rivited to the the basket so you have to drill out the rivet head and knock them out. you will need some red locktite though, duncan bumped up the torque spec on my bolts to 8 ft/lbs.

oh almost forgot put the gear into the hub then install the rubber disks....I fought wioth this for at least 15 min before I got smart. hope this helped.

Where do you put the rubber disks at?

Just curious I also have a aftermarket clutch basket, just have not mess with that project yet it's a PE Clutch basket.

if i remember, on the gear, there should be some openings, 2 disks in each hole. dont quote me, but i think thats right

yeah that sounds right, 2 disks per slot. you'll see what we mean when you take the stock one apart. i used a small grinder and carefully took off the heads of the stock rivets, then punched them out. it's really not that hard of a job. i did mine without problems, and it was the first time i had a clutch apart in about 15 years, especially to that level. a clymer's manual will walk you through it fine, and of course the HQ is here 24/7.

the PE Clutch Basket and new dirt digger clutch in my garage just waiting to be installed. Wanted to wait until I got these items so I did not have to open the clutch over again and again.

i wouldnt waste money on the hinson. u can buy the same thing cheaper elsewhere. FAST sells the magnum basket for about 160 bucks. when replacing the basket its also a good idea to replace the clutch hub and pressure plate...

i went with the hinson basket, but couldn't quite swing the whole set up. so i replaced the hub and pressure plate with new stock ones for much cheaper. mine were full of stress cracks. definitely a good idea to replace them all together, even if it is just with new stockers.

yea thats what i run. stock hub and pressure plate. and magnum basket. works very well so far...

im also replacing my clutch set-up. About how much $$$ can i expect to spend on a stock pressure plate and hub???

Depends on where ya get them at. They retail for around 55 or so. Shoot me a pm as most dealers will take a week or 2 just to get them in.

mine was $17 for the pressure plate and $32 for the inner hub from the local yammy shop.
