ditch the big bore kit, it will hurt more then help, the transfer ports get cut way down with the big bore, the transfers are the main power maker. port the stock cylinders, cpi pipes, and bigger carbs, or a 350 cub, cpis and bigger carbs. cpi pipes come on alittle sooner in the mid range but will not rev as high as the shearers. me personaly I love my shearers and would not trade them for anything. oh and alot of the 1/4 mile bikes on planet sand run 18/38ish gearing in the 1/4 mile so I would not say it has not been done. most of them are goin mid 90's at the big end.

Word!! LS7...JT's bike flat out gets it...period. However, it's pretty safe to say he has more than 1500 into it, right JT? :)

I'm sure they're running 18/38 in the quarter...but, his bike is Bone stock...highly doubt too many of the folks over at PS are stock...running that gearing...:)

Ha ha!!

If I get a few side jobs by a franchise, I"m not going to even waste my time having Jeff port my cylinders, I'm going ported cub and 4 mil, with 32 Lectrons soon.

As much as I'd like some shearers or CPIs...I think I'll take my all around power of my T5s for now.

If this turns into a drag/dune only quad, you bet I'll have some Shearers soon....

Yeah, your setup was pretty raw, JT. I'm going to have my T5s blasted and ceramic coated in the next couple of months. He does powder coating too...if you wanted to get that swinger done, let me know...he's in Michigan, and did up my buddy's Mach Z with powder and painted plastic, looks suite. Lemme know if you want some pics of his sled...

All kinds of places. Do a search on here for them.

I know Jeff @ Fast has 'em. I'm sure Jim @ Passion has 'em.

You could even find 'em on ebay.

I found Cubs, Noss head, Vforce Reeds, gaskets and pistons on Ebay for about 1500 just yesterday...

Thats my next steep, Im thinkin 404 big bore kit with forged power pistons, shreer inframes, cool head with 21cc domes, and porting with V force cage. What ever I can do with $1500

I say also forget the 404 big bore, been there done that and wasnt impressed. Not to mention my ported 350 was faster.

i ride trails with a 17, i dont hit fouth often but i can kill myself the way it pulls second and third, and my motor comes on from nothing not at 6K, then when i hit straights out here in the desert i can pull 85 and 90 mph just going through the rest of my gears, my bike with a 15 is violent with a -2 swinger it hooks great so when i pin it with a 15 i pretty much just wheelie through fourth, plus im shifting my ass off, i can ride faster with gearing that stretches, and the taller gearing tends to keep my shee from getting so squirly, plus if you got the ponies it pulls way harder.......

I'm impressed if he is able to pull the 18. I run a 16, but where we ride is extremely tight. I like to pull the bigger gears mainly for the lack of shifting. My engine is similiar to Deuce's and Bansheeguy's, just a little different. ;) Jim is a hell of a builder, and I'm sure our motors could pull the 18, IF we had the room to really find the top end.

My motor is pretty much the same as Bansheeguys, just throw in some PVs and 30mm carbs(they aren't to bad on fuel). This is about as torque(y) as I could ever see a Banshee motor ever being, and 16-17 teeth seems to be about the limit.

Wow those are high! maybe one day, but I dont have that kinda money right now.

Maybe I should start with pipes and porting. What are some good pistons? The forged vitos dont look bad. What size carbs should I run on a stock cube motor with porting and pipes? Im guessing stock will be fine? Banshees just seem to be much more differnt than other ATv's i have modded. BUt you get alot out of them. :headbang:

Edit: I just relized what I think I thought I was saying made no sense at all..... :o

Keep the stock pistons in the bike until it needs new ones or is worn with low compression.

Wiseco prolites are still great pistons. If you go 4mil stroker, you'll need the 795 series with the offset wrist pin..

Of course stock carbs will work on Cub Cylinders...but, it'll benefit greatly from at least 32mm carbs...

Dollar for dollar, mod for mod, you simply can not beat a banshee for performance.

Handling and suspension still leave a lot to be desired, though...:)

I think thats what I was trying to say.

I guess ill just wait till I burn up a piston and then do the 4 mill with porting.

How much CC's does it increase to?

Bad idea...if you wait till you burn up a piston, it could break apart and cause other damage...

Just keep an eye on your compression. Should be roughly 130's or so new...a little more or less.

When it gets harder to start, and the compression gets lower than say...110 to 105, just rebuild it. No use in waiting till it blows.

It will give you roughly 370cc or so...depending on what bore you choose...

A 4 mil really won't give you more Horsepower...it will give you more tourque.

Which...is what you need to pull that gearing better...

For 1500...you could at least get a fresh top end, 4 mil stroker and pipes, if you shop around. Porting too...

Ok last question, is there a write up on porting? Obviously you will want to open the ports up larger and smooth them out, but there are always tricks to it. Im pretty good with a dremel, lol. I could atleast do a clean up on them and a polish.

Posted (edited)

Let someone else port them...unless you don't mind the fact since you don't know what you're doing, you could very well make them worse.

Porting is an art..and it much more than raising the ports, making them larger...etc.

It has to do with shaping them, etc., to get the right power characteristics you are looking for.

You could very well slow your motor down if done incorrectly...

Plus..if you screw 'em up bad enough, another builder may not want to touch them...

I'm not telling you not to do it. But..I am telling you be careful and be ready to pay the piper should you hack 'em up...

I'm pretty good at reading wiring charts and soldering connections...but I wouldn't attempt to wire my house...you dig?

haha, yea I deffinatly understand, I was just mainly talkin about cleaning them up and makin the smooth. I wouldnt fell comfortable "Hacking Away".

I guess a little smoothness couldnt hurt. :bolt:
