It's really more of a seal, at least on my 2003. It's made out of rubber, and should be pretty resistent to tearing, and does not need to be replaced. Of course if there is damage from some prior teardown replace it at this point. I guess on older models it could be more of a gasket, but my experience is with bikes '02 and newer.

another tip... Make sure you set the pickup magnet to the correct gap. I think Ricky Stator says as close as possible, but no closer than 20 thousandths. I'm sure you can search it on here and find the correct distance if you need to.

Just a tip for ya... Make sure you loc-tite those bolts that hold the timing plate and the nut on the flywheel (if ya took it off).  :cheers:

I second that! Use and impact wrentch, and after its tight, use the gun in bursts. It will tighten up alot better. BTW, i had my flywheel come off while riding in a sand quarry. I was at the bottom of a huge arse sand pit and had to get towed out. Not fun...
