2001Sheesmine Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 Ok I took the cover off of my airbox and sent a screw through my k&n filter to the airbox to hold it in. Is there a kit that you can take the airbox completly off or should I just leave it how it is. Quote
Too Many Toys Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 Most people that want to remove the airbox take it completely out. Then attach some K&N's directly to your carbs. Be sure not to cut the part that attaches the over flow because you will need that. Someone makes a cool aftermarket holder for your overflow but I forgot where I got mine. Quote
Toomey Banshee Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 Dual K &N pods hook right up to the carbs. A pro design filter plate bolts right onto your airbox and you clamp a filter onto that. Toomey also makes a 2 into 1 filter that bolts onto the carbs. Quote
2001Sheesmine Posted November 19, 2005 Author Report Posted November 19, 2005 I cant find anyone that just sells the plate or adaptor that hooks right to my carbs. I dont want to buy both the plate and filter since I already have a k&n. Anyone know where I can just get that piece? It doesnt have to be billit. Quote
sheecandy Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 if you dont ride in any type of wet conditions id toss that air box get some clamp on k&n and outerwares make sure you got you got the proper jetting go to rocky mountain for the over flow bracket Quote
2001Sheesmine Posted November 19, 2005 Author Report Posted November 19, 2005 i couldnt find one on rmatv. Quote

2001Sheesmine Posted November 19, 2005 Author Report Posted November 19, 2005 I already ride with the cover off. Will I notice a difference if I take the whole box off? Quote
Too Many Toys Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 Yes, if you upgrade to a better filter setup. Quote
fast87 Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 yes there is a difference, mine came with no box, the guy just hacksawed the rear portion of the box off so he can still mount the overflow tank..also shields a little mud from getting on the filter, if you ride through puddles or wet roads you'll have to clean that filter once a day minimum...if you ride dunes or only when it's dry out then go for it, you'll see a slight increase in power(i did), i bought another 20.00 box from a member on here and put that on during the winter months(lucky me, 8 months of rain a year in the PNW), have fun whatever you decide, and remember to do a plug chop after you remove the box, it might be running a little lean ~Mark~ Quote
BigRed350x Posted November 20, 2005 Report Posted November 20, 2005 I just went from stock air filter/box setup to dual K&N Pod filters and DAMN! Huge difference there. I had my jetting almost spot on by just guessing when I did it. Ended up going up 4 sizes on mains, and richer 2 clips on needle, need to lean that out one clip and will have it right on. Quote
