Proquad101 Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 I have 2000 banshee that will run but the lights dont work. I have gone through all the plugs and made sure they where all good and put my multi meter on the the tail light and it doesnt show anything. What watt should the stator be putting out? The ? I have does anybody have any idea's, if the stator was bad the bike wont run...right? Quote
aschultz91 Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 check all your wires and make sure in no place a frayed part of the wire touches the frame . A frayed wire hit my exhaust on my bike and it shorted out hte light and made a spark. Quote
midnite Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 I was told the lighting part and ignition part of the stator are seperate. So yeah, the lighting part could be bad and the ignition part could still be good. Quote
wayfst Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 thats what mine is doing right now, runs fine , no lights. bad lighting coil. Quote

It should tell you what to check in your Clymers manual. I'd just post it, but the good book is at the shop. As far as checking it with a multi meter, I think if you just checked it for voltage you'd see if it was putting out or not. The tail light circuit is good for 4 watts if I remember right. Thats a little over .3 amps at 12 volts. If you cant find any shorted wiring, pull the flywheel and check for some coils with mashed wiring. It uses that wax insulated wire so if it gets shorted at all thats no good. Quote
endofitall9 Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 Dude did you put new bulbs in it?.........just a suggestion would be the first thing I did, if it keeps blowing them then its a bad voltage reg. Quote

I also checked the plug and checked the wires with the multi meter and didnt get anything. I have a fly wheel puller on the way so I can look at the stator and see if there is any damage on it. Quote
crbanshee Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 the stock stator should put out 70 watts.. did u upgrade in lighting?? for example if you are running stock lights they are 35 watts each..but the bike draws power too so you have to remember 35 wat lights will not get a true 35..and if you did upgrade lights is your ground solid or did u float it through the stator?? im running the trailtech lights and they wired in direct to the stock wires..my friend is running two 100 watt pias with an electrex 265 watt stator and it was a bitch to wire in. he has to run 2 channels off the stator wich means 2 regulators and 2 switches for the lights..so i recomend checking the wiring from the stator all the way to the lights. and the regulator too..but if it is a problem with the stator none of the electrical on the bike would work. ignition rear light none of it.. boonman Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 The bike draws nothing off of the lighting coil, so a 200W stator, should put out 200W. It would run two 100watt lights with ease. No need to worry. I have no experience with the electrex stator, but by the sounds of it, it isn't anything I would want to run. I put on two Hella lights on my bike, with a RickyStator 200W unit, and I love it. My bike lights up the night just fantastic. If your bike has no juice to any light, I would point to a falulty lighting coil. THis leaves you two options. Have yours re-wound, or just buy a new unit. I would recommend Ricky Stator. Quote
