badassbanshee479 Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 when I lanuch my bike is will let me shift up to third gear find but some times when you go to shift the rest of the gears you pull up on the shifter and nothing happens, it will not shift until you lift on the throttle shift then get back into it. kind of hard to win races when you cant get it to change gears. has anyone else had this problem, or does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be?? eehsnab2 Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 from your signature it looks like you may running enough hp that you may need a override transmission.... I am going through the same problem myself. Before going to the cub I was able to click through my gears pretty eaisly. Now I notice that under a load the tranny doesnt want to click up while I'm on the throttle. I literally have to get off the throttle and pull the clutch now to shift gears... Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted October 4, 2005 Author Report Posted October 4, 2005 that is exactly what mine is doing too!! jeff and I are working on a way to make it shift without going over ride. I still dune and trail ride my shee!!! Quote
J-Madd Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 that is exactly what mine is doing too!! jeff and I are working on a way to make it shift without going over ride. I still dune and trail ride my shee!!! 422769[/snapback] Definitely let us know if you find a fix!! I can shift mine, but I have to cram the hell out of the shifter to get it to go.............can't be good for the gears. Quote
2twin350s Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 mine does this too on occasion. only coming out of third in a drag race.i replaced the basket and plates and set the shift adjustment a little closer to the upshift side and it seems to have helped so far. i figure you want to upshift quicker than downshift and it is easier to downshift any way.the locknut on the shift shaft next to the shift star will adjust to do that for you.so far it seems to be better. i also noticed that heavy oils will cuase this too, so i stick with 10w30 in the trans. badassbanshee479 Posted October 5, 2005 Author Report Posted October 5, 2005 jeff offers a mod to the shift shaft to make it shift better, he also has a lighter spring for the detent lever to make shifts easier. I have the spring, now I am waiting on my shift shaft, I will see if this helps, I use mtl 80w oil, maybe I will try something else, what is everyone else running ?? Quote
FadedDreams Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 probably the next best thing before you get a over-ride,would be to get the Rz shift drum and forks.I have that plus every other tab cut off the gears, along with a modded shift star. You can shift as fast as your foot will let you, even at full throttle. 2twin350s Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 guys check out alba racing. they are selling a bearing installed shift drum for 125.oo$ Quote
FASTOYS Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 JT, i just finished a 10mm Trex for a guy that wouldnt shift hardly at all (worse than yours by far) and now he says it shifts like butter and better than new! There is hope , just gotta look in there and replace what is worn and do the mods!!! Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted October 5, 2005 Author Report Posted October 5, 2005 thats a relef for sure !! I know there is grooves in the clutch hub, and I know the shift shaft is worn so I think that should bring it around. what tranny oil should I be using?? Quote
Theshit Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 (edited) ATF type F is the best oil i have ever used in the tranny. That will also help your shift problems. Atleast it did for me. Edited October 5, 2005 by Theshit Quote
reded Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 I'm feeling the pain here! Mine shifted fine before cubs, now it won't hardly shift to fourth at all. I get one clean pass out of 7-8 runs where it hits all the gears and I don't overrev the piss out of it. Sometimes I get the feeling that my bike is just lazy and don't like to race. I saw your post on PS and from the looks of it (from those who responded) it could be virtually anything in the tranny. Think I'll just trash everything this winter and start over. Heres your chance Jeff, what kinda deal can ya cut me for everything between the clutch basket and countershaft? Quote
23champ Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 After last weekend, I'm thinkin the clutch on my bike is only gonna be used at the starting line next year! Quote
FASTOYS Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Hmmm, lets see the cost of 2 sets of Cubs $$$......... jk lol Get your list together and give me a call as you Know I keep all that on hand!!! Yeah this shiat is addictive huh? LOL Quote
