banshee boy 98 Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 (edited) got a 2000 shee 10 over aprox 2 hours on it, 19cc domes, pro circut pipes, prodesign filter, no lid, not ported. 280 mains, if you REALY crank it hard it will pop, and stop pulling hard. i, cant decide if it is running out of gas( meaning the bowls cant keep full of fuel) or is it above the pipes? the midrange hits hard, no boging anywere. i thought mabe it cant pull a 280 main? was thinking of a 270 or 260 main?? any other ideas. the dealer ship worked on it for a week, there answer was dont run it that hard i'am just trying to help this guy out. thanks fuel is torco 112 mixed at 32:1 Edited September 28, 2005 by banshee boy 98 Quote
banshee boy 98 Posted September 28, 2005 Author Report Posted September 28, 2005 also the resistors in the plug caps were bad, i put new ngk 5 ohm caps on it, and i noticed he has br8es plugs in it not b8es. i know the r just meens resieter plug, will that cause a problem at high rpm?? Quote
wayfst Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 stop running race fuel it will start running right. Quote
taldoc3 Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 let me get this staight, your dealer told you not to run it that hard, what tha; never heard that before that is what a shee is for, tell them were they can can it, yea try not running race fuel, and maybe check your stator wires and see if they are rubing on the flywheel, mine did that and that was my prob Quote
Otis Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 (edited) if you REALY crank it hard it will pop, and stop pulling hard. pop as in back fire? If it's back firing, my guess is your runnin too lean on your jetting.... also the resistors in the plug caps were bad, i put new ngk 5 ohm caps on it, and i noticed he has br8es plugs in it not b8es. i know the r just meens resieter plug, will that cause a problem at high rpm?? no stop running race fuel it will start running right. midnite Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 I don't know your elevation, but I ride around 650 ft. My 99 has no lid with a proflow, and pro curcit pipes, and I run a 300 mikuni main jet, and I'm going to try a 310. If your elevation is 1000 ft or under, I would think you are lean. I'm not sure, but if you have 19cc domes you might need that high octane race gas. Quote
wayfst Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 pop as in back fire? If it's back firing, my guess is your runnin too lean on your jetting.... no Is this the same guy that said don't run it that hard??.... 420698[/snapback] high octane fuel is more stable and can cause the bike to act rich at higher rpm's, my thought is that the bike is going " fat " on top. so even if he is running below sea level he still has no timing and no porting the bike is loading up, but you are probably " the man " so go ahead and sing to him. jaysea1 Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 Sounds like the main jet is too small. If you're pinning the throttle, and it is popping, you are lean, go up a couple sizes on the main and do a plug check. Quote
2003LimitedBanshee Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 I would have to agree, 280 sounds lean. Have you checked the plugs to see if they are ghost white. I would jump to a 290, 300 or maybe even a 310. You have to remember that you can get a lean bog as well. The fact that it falls flat and pops, sounds like a lean condition. So I would jump up, you usually don't get many ooops's if it is lean popping. Quote
dlnoss Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 I wouldn't run pump gas with 19cc domes. Quote
banshdog Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 My mods are listed in my sig, similiar to yours and I have a 320 main. The first thing that came to mind is that 280 is too lean. I was running 280's, and noticed that it felt like it was losing power in the high rpm's. came to find out it had low compression, the rings were bad which i attributed to the lean mixture. I f i were you i would check the compression, if its low you will need to check cylinders, rings, pistons, etc. If your compression is ok, then I would rejet and go up a couple sized on your mains. peace out napolean. banshee boy 98 Posted September 29, 2005 Author Report Posted September 29, 2005 it has 180lbs cranking comp. so i think it needs race gas. the plugs with a 280 main were very dark. it is not a violant pop, not a back fire . i'am not sure but could the carbs be out of fuel and it has a lean pop because there is no fuel in them?? i took them off the bike today so i can measure the float height. i'am trying to help this guy out because the dealer has done nothing but bend him over. he has spent a ton of $$ with them, and they are no help. thegroup Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 dealers r about worthless when it comes to mod. bikes(just my op.) but, like everyone else go up in the jett and see what happens Quote
jaysea1 Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 Did you do the plug check correctly,(not trying to offend)at high speed for a few seconds, kill the power and coast to a stop? Quote
2003LimitedBanshee Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 I can't imagine that the bowls are running out of fuel unless the float height is way off. I can run mine wide open with 330's through the gears and pin it in 6th for 6-10 for a plug check and I've never run out of fuel in the bowls. If you think it is running out of fuel, I would check to make sure the fuel petcock isn't all junked up, causing decreased flow. My thoughts are that the factory setup (including the needle assembly in the float, fuel lines etc.) should flow plenty of fuel to support 280 mains, as long as there aren't any restrictions. Quote
