quad4me Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 Got a used axle with carrier, sproket and brake disc. Need to pull axle out of carrier....but sproket won't "slide" off....as the clymers says. Even tapped it with a hammer...nada. any Ideas or techniques? Quote
macgillivary Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 put a piece of hardwood on it and whack it with a hammer needs some muscle to get that off sometimes soft wood will just shatter into bits or actually anything that will spread out the blow of a hammer, you just want to avoid bending something Quote
quad4me Posted September 15, 2005 Author Report Posted September 15, 2005 I upgraded to the BFH....still won't budge. Don't need those hubs....but the hard part is that it's not onthe quad...so I have to hold it or place it on somthing....without it moving. Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 do you have a work bench?? if so drill a hole so the end of the axle with the threads on it will fit through so that the lip that the wheel hub sits aginst rests on the top of the work bench, then hold the other end of the axle, hit the sprocket hub working around it till it comes off. this is how I did mine, only had to beat the piss out of it to get it to move. good luck, let me know if you need anymore help. quad4me Posted September 16, 2005 Author Report Posted September 16, 2005 OK..got the axle out of the carrier...but the bearing and sleeve came out too. SO...what is the trick for that. Or do I need the tool like the CLYMERS says????? Thanks Quote
2twin350s Posted September 17, 2005 Report Posted September 17, 2005 take the axle to a machine shop.that has a press. it will cost you like ten to twenty dollars. most napa stores have one. have them press it out. they will know how to do it with out damage. then sandblast that sleeve before reinstalling it.
