Guest nightmare Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 Does anyone know where, or if it would even be cost efective to have a set of pipes redone? I have a set of Pro Circuits that a nickel plated and they are rusting by the flanges. They still work great just a little ugly. Can you have them chromed or will chrome not handle the heat. Quote
NYUK Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 some platers will redo them. but it might cost you 100 to 125 per pipe.some platers like the one by me will not touch used pipes.it contaminates the nickel bath. Quote
onz Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 ive gotten mine rechromed a couple of times.. no problem..they dip them in an acid bath first so if a plater tells you he cant do them, he doesnt know how. Quote
noissesboyobyalp Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 i saw this thing on ebay called chrome fx for 169. its like a do it your self type chrome. i havent tried it yeat but i want to. it says that some of there customers have done 2 complete sport bikes with one kit. ask someof the people that have boguht it if it works and if it holds up and doesnt last for one week. yammerhammer98 Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 Everybody says that ceramic coating is the best way to go. I don't think the nickel plating would keep you from coating the pipes. Pappy's Performance Coatings in Fresno, CA is one of the best sources for ceramic and powdercoating. There is also a well-known shop in Pennsylvania called Jet-Hot Coatings. Quote
FadedDreams Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 I had my Rocket pipes coated by Jet-Hot.They turned out really good and have held up well for almost 2 years now. Some people say its not a good idea to ceramic coat a 2 stroke pipe, but i don't see what the problem is. Quote
bansheeryder_69 Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 I had a ceramic coated pipe and can on my sled and it held up nicely Quote
Rooster Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 I had my FMF's chrome plated last year. They were used - very used. I ran them for 13 years before getting them done. The shop was a little worried about it due to the carbon build-up inside but he just plugged them real good before he started the process and it was no problem. They look great. Rooster Quote
Justintoxicated Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 How much does ceramic cost from Jet Hot? My Fatties are starting to rust too, hell they started to rust the fist month I owned them and I boguth them nickle plated. Nickle plating is no reason why they canot chrome since it typicaly goes copper then nickle then chrome on top... But the carbon inside the pipes worries shops... I was thinking about re-doing my Fatty's but only if it is not too expensive Hell I could not find a chrome shop that would do my A-arms for under $200. I'm thinking I would be better off just buying chrome CPI's.. Quote
yammerhammer98 Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 I had the name wrong before. It's Cap's in Fresno, not Pappy's. Here's the link: www.capsbhc.com Quote
FadedDreams Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 It was $160 for both pipes with shipping.I trhink if you want the silencers done, its another $30-$40 for those. Quote
IMMASANDSLUT Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 I had the name wrong before. It's Cap's in Fresno, not Pappy's. Here's the link: www.capsbhc.com 422855[/snapback] Does CAPS take the old rusty chrome off before they coat them? If not, how do you take chrome off? Also, how much do they charge? Quote
NYUK Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 taking the chrome off is called pickling. it`s a reversed polarity chroming process in a pickle bath. the chrome and copper plate just falls off. or they sand blast the shit out of them and start with bare metal. Quote
crebble Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 kinda funny this thread since im nickle plating my rear hub as i write this did also zink coat my back brake and chaindrive components yesterday... its not that hard to re-nickle the pipes and it doesnt "hurt" the nickle bath any either its just to dip them in some different acids (dont know english word for them since im a swe) and they will be clean before the nickle bath... to un-nickle them you use the same acid that is in car batterys but a much stronger mix of it. and electricity /crebb Quote
NYUK Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 yeah, me and another hq member bought a 5 gallon triple chrome kit. it actually worked. but it took like 4 hours to do a footpeg.and all the acids misting in my garage made everything steel rust.it was pretty neat. Quote
