Otis Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 long story short, i broke off the head of a foot peg bolt, leaving the rest of the bolt sunk inside the hole. I tried an easy out, and broke that off too. I tried everything, but had to resort to grinding the weld off the threaded washer insert to get it out. I need a new insert, but this isnt a replacable piece. ( i checked out Ronnies before posting this) Anyone happen to have an old mangled frame laying around that they're willing to take this piece out of, and sell it?? here's a few pictures of the insert, and frame. back side of threaded insert w/ broken bolt! front view of threaded insert! where insert sits in the frame! ^ all these are clickable links Quote
wayfst Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 pics didn't work for me. can you weld a nut to the frame in its place? Quote
Lepew Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 The pictures didn't work for me but a macine shop should be able to make if for you reasonably or maybe someone here on the hq that has access to a lathe. Quote
locogato11283 Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 is it the rear bolt or front? if its the rear have a machine shop make you a piece with a threaded hole out of 1 inch stock. itll slide right in there once you cut that outside piece off. then weld it in...i have done this to many banshees... second fix, this is what i do now. scrap the 2 rear bolts all together and use a piece of 3/8" all thread all the way thru it. put a nut on either end and bam ur done. Otis Posted July 24, 2005 Author Report Posted July 24, 2005 is it the rear bolt or front? if its the rear have a machine shop make you a piece with a threaded hole out of 1 inch stock it's the front. .. I thought about what you suggested, but there's a "washer" looking deal attached to the insert that sits outside the frame. i guess it's a spacer so the foot peg bolts up straight. (it's a one piece insert, not welded) the OD of the part that slides into the frame is about 3/4", and the OD of the washer about an inch/inch and a 1/4. I know what your saying though....i guess if i cant get an OE insert, i could just weld a piece of stock in the whole in the frame and just use a regular washer on the out side....thanks for the help. lemme try the pics this way, just for kicks.... Otis Posted July 24, 2005 Author Report Posted July 24, 2005 the first pic is of the out side of the insert. the 2nd is where it slides into the frame and here's one of the back side of the insert, with part of the broiken bolt still in it. Quote
locogato11283 Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 cut it off a little more and weld a piece of stock on there with a hole drilled and tapped in it... Quote
DBLtapS Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 I had the same thing happen to me. I welding two new nuts on the frame. I had to use a few washers to get the spacing right but it hastn broke.... Quote
