EXtreme- Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 what I thought was clean and dry, my cover leaks ATF along the bottom...enought to make a nice mess. I installed a brand new gasket and even got allen head cap screws for a snug fit....all for not. ideas? Quote
leadsled Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 i usally silicone the gasket both sides then put it on the motor that helps some but they all leak a little here and there Quote
NYUK Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 i use yamabond on the clutch cover, then install the gasket. that way if i have to take it off it stays on the cover. no leaks. Quote
Cotton eyed Joe Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 I"ll 3rd that opinion. I always use a gasket sealer. I'm not sure if there is a bolt pattern to torque it down, but always be sure to get the screws finger tight first, then go around it torquing it in steps. I usually take 2-3 steps to do it. I dunno if it makes a difference or not, but its such a big cover I'm sure it flexes a little. Quote
fixitrod Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 I wipe a thin layer of something like yamabond on the cover seal surface and bolt it on. I've never had a gasket on there and never had a leak. Quote
locogato11283 Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 never had a gasket fail. ive even reused the same one 2 or 3 times. Quote
BdBanshee Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 I still have the original gasket on mine, and it's a 1988! I used some Mr. Gasket to hold the gasket to the clutch cover 1st time I removed it, now it stays put and still doesn't leak. It's been off many times too. Quote
EXtreme- Posted July 21, 2005 Author Report Posted July 21, 2005 Your banshee has power steering?!? yes. If you do the conversion, make sure to use a stainless flex line for the pressure hose. I've had pressure issues with that on hard landings. Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 ditch that worthelss gasket....mine leaked with the gasket..took it off and just use yamabond and it never leaks Quote
