I redid all the hoses on my carbs. I made them all long enough to be routed out under the engine and frame. I did this to stop the little leaking onto the engine thatw as mixing with sand and making mud.

Last trip out was my first time with this setup. I noticed when I got back that the carbs themselves were covered with muck. Could the longer hoses have caused a backup in the carbs? I also noticed towards the ned of the trip, a bit of cutting out in 5th gear. Could this be related?

I did all 6 hoses the same length

are they getting pinched somewhere. between the swingarm and the engine cases maybe? its possible its filling up the lines then seeping out the top where they connect to the carbs.

Yeah, it's a little tight but not quite pinched. I might route it over the pivot on the swing. I just don't want the hoses having too much movement.

I ran a longer line from the tank to the carbs once so I could run an inline fuel filter and that gave me so many damned problems I said fuck it.

The line would run dry, and would take forever to fill up, or it would get kinked and I'd run the bowls dry...

I figured if I was going to burn up a couple sets of rod bearings because of a lack of fuel/oil or something I'd take my chances on a few grains of sand.

The hoses could also be getting dirt/mud in them plugging up the line not allowing proper ventilation :shrugani: My friend had that happen to him on the vent tube that comes off the gas cap, the dealer put a hose on it at least 3 ft long and when it got clogged, it wouldn't allow the gas to flow freely down the lines into the carbs causing all kinds of issues. We cut the line to about 10 inches long and haven't had a problem since. This might be what you're experiencing.
