Hey everyone,

Im 15, live on long island ny, and currently ride a banshee. I am considering buying a new yfz, but am concerned about the reliability of the machine, and have a few questions.

1) How would the yfz do in fairly rocky terrain, with trails ranging from WOT to very slow, basically just trail riding?

2) How would the YFZ shocks compare to the works double rates?

3) How often should valve clearences be checked, and how hard is adjusting/checking them?

4) Does the cam mod decrase reliablilty?

5) What are some of the problem areas/weak points of the YFZ, and what should be done first to prevent big problems down the road?

6) How would it compare "Speed wise" to my stock banshee?

7) Is the Yamaha 4 year extended warrenty worth it for the machine, if it costs $500? What is covered by the yamaha service warrenty?

Thanks in advance for all the help guys

BTW, I poasted this on YFZCentral first, and none of the 32 low lives who saw it cared enough to respond!

Please only people who OWN YFZ's respond!

very good. thats what kind of riding i do with mine. works great.

2) How would the YFZ shocks compare to the works double rates?
not for sure but i run 450 shocks on one of my banshees and its a ton better than stock. for 250 bucks the 450 shocks are hard to beat.
3) How often should valve clearences be checked, and how hard is adjusting/checking them?
just took mine to the dealership after having it for over a year with all hard riding and the valves were fine. no adjustment needed.
4) Does the cam mod decrase reliablilty?

dont think so. heard its good but also heard its worthless. i dont have it done to mine and dont plan on doing it. i dont think it needs it.

5) What are some of the problem areas/weak points of the YFZ, and what should be done first to prevent big problems down the road?

i havent had any problems. had some wrecks with mine and flipped it a few times. no major concerns anywhere. the air filter is junk. i replaced it with a k&n.

6) How would it compare "Speed wise" to my stock banshee?

prolly beat your stock banshee on dirt no problem and on street itll be close. stock 450 will take astock banshee in pretty much all areas of riding.

7) Is the Yamaha 4 year extended warrenty worth it for the machine, if it costs $500? What is covered by the yamaha service warrenty?

warrantys are worthless i think. i doubt youll have that man problems with it to justify spending an extra 500 bucks. if i cant break mine i seriously doubt youll break yours.

Thanks in advance for all the help guys

the yfz is pretty solid as is, I wrecked mine pretty bad the other day and only bent my handle bars and parking brake thing, it flipped a couple time and didnt even bend the a arms or nothing, i was surprised. people say the axle is weak but it looks thicker than the banshee axle and mine is still straight after all that nonsense.

Another good site for the 450 is yfztech.com They have a lot of good info on there. The things you should watch for is the swing arms tend to like to crack, and always run it with the light on or you will go through a lot of batteries. Whatever you do don't sale the banshee.
