Don't tell newbies about the 50:1 - 100:1 mixture, they'll try it and burn their shit up. That is strictly with race oils, for race bikes. Follow the oil manufacturers recommendations. And, it doesn't have to be just race bikes. I won't run less oil than 40:1 because I don't trust it with any oil.
