i was thining to change the standerd clutch on my shee..

what do u guys think of the tommey heavy duty clutch is it better than the stock?

If you need a clutch you can get it. Some people swear by the toomey clutch. I have a barnett dirtdigger on a 4mm stroker motor and it doesn't slip with my haulers on it. If your clutch seems okay and only slip every once in a while you may look into added heavy duty springs to what you already have.

I have the Toomey, it's pretty aggressive. Lots better feel and doesn't heat up with hard use and get grabby/slippy like the stocker. Make sure to run something like a 1/2 (Toomey) and 1/2 (factory) mix with the springs, you have gotta be an ape to pull the full Toomey spring pack. I'm at 1/2 and 1/2 and no chance of slippage at all, just easy 3rd gear wheelies. -It's held up great thru 3 years of fanning and powershifting in the dunes.

so what do u guys think of me putting all the toomey plates and changing some of the springs.... so that 1/2 are stock and 1/2 are toomey.

 

will the clutch be harder to squeeze too?

If you use heavy duty springs it will make the pull harder. You might be suprised what a new cable will do for the pull though. I thought my cable was okay until I replaced it for the hell of it. WOW, it's way easier to pull now.

i would go with the street bike clutch. thats what me and my bro have in our high hp machines and they didnt even slip on the dyno...

hehe you had to ask me huh? its the street bike clutch that fits in the fj600 street bike. dont know the name brand of the clutch but let me tell u its flippin sweet. no more slippage whatsoever. if u guys want a number of the guy to call for this let me know and ill post it up.

The reason I ask is because the fzr600 (I believe) uses the same stock clutch fibers as the banshee... same part number. I don't think the stock fibers are bad.. I think it's the springs more than anything.

3 stock springs, 3 Barnett spirngs.

 

Easy to pull, does not slip.

 

The Barnett clutch is crap.

 

It drags, is hard to pull, and operates like a light switch. On or Off.

 

This is an easy to ride clutch that you can use all day long.

I have heard great things about the FZR streetbike setup, Yamaha of Florence (Oregon) has one; I'm sure several other dealers do as well. Haven't heard about the YZ 490 setup but I used to have the bike and it had a great clutch, really progressive, easy dial the power with. I abused the hell out of that bike, couldn't kill it in the three years I had it.
