if your looking for something you can get at a good price, that has an imput for a helmet cam 700x digital zoom (300x analog I believe), and a bunch of decent features:

Look at the sony trv-330. You can probably get one used off ebay for pretty darn cheap and its a hell of a camcorder. Digital 8 recording. It's not onto a disk.....but I prefer tape until it goes to solid media anyway

have fun! i switched to digital camcorder when i tried capturing from my regular one. the regular camcorders dont have a very good quality of video when u get them on the computer, at least mine didnt. went out and bought a digital and it works pretty well. still not the best but i can see mself now. i would pm combattalon and ask him about it. he is the one that got me going on video capture. youll also need a capture program. he set me up with a free version of vegas video. anyway, i would get ahold of him for any suggestions.

Period - are you sure about those zoom numbers? :o

300X seems like something you'd use for looking at the stars. I think these numbers are accurate:

Looking through a 300X zoom lens:

1. Something 20 miles away would seem 350 feet away.

2. Something 1 mile away would seem to be 17 feet away.

3. Someone across a 20 foot living room would seem to be 3/4 of an inch away.

Geesh with the digital zoom you could make a porno and tell if the guy was shooting blanks or not at the same time! :rotflmao:

dont buy a camera based on Digital zoom. As anyone that has used a digi cam will tell you it SUCKS major ass. Look for a decent OPTICAL zoom, and i would go for MINI DV just because of the size. Stay away from the DVR cams because editing the already compressed video will not give you the best outcome. Digital 8 will also work if you are on a tighter budget, but the cam will be slightly bigger. Your cam will no doubt come with a firewire port, but make sure that it does before you buy it. If it has AV outs only then it will be more of a pain to capture to your computer. Last thing, one hour of DV footage (uncompressed) is worth 13 GB of your Hard Drive space. When you have questions about acutal capture and programs drop me a PM. good luck!

Oh yeah, I have a Sony TRV-38 Mini DV cam and i use Adobe Premiere for capture and editing.
