chris642 Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 hey, i was reading somewhere that some guys use the smog pumps from a car as a kind of supercharger on motorcycles. i bet you could find a good one in a junkyard and get it for hardly anything. what does everyone think of this idea? i think it would work pretty good. i mean, im no expert, so i dont know if it would even work or not. i think it would be a pretty cool project to do on this on a little cr 80 i got, if i fuck it up, i wouldnt care. for those who dont know what a smog pump is " A slang term for an air injection system pump. Used to pump extra air into the exhaust system to help the converter reburn pollutants". whatcha think? Quote
Banshee17Racing Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 Sounds good. i wanna see some pics if you're gonna do it. Even if it doesn't work on the 80...it should look sweet! Quote
racer Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 i dunno man, seems kinda risky. would probably be bulky too. give it a try then post up some pictures. Quote
chris642 Posted March 27, 2005 Author Report Posted March 27, 2005 (edited) see, this is just an idea that poped into my head. it may as well be a future project, but i have no intentions right now of doing it. i just wanted to see what you guys thouhgt of the idea. i was thinking it would be hard to tune the bike becasue i would run a seperate motor and it would probally only run on one speed, not in sync with the RPM of the bike. unless i was to rig a wire that would turn the motor on once i get above idle, idk, fun to think about.. MotulMonsta Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 I never thought of using a smog pump...what psi does one normaly run at? I'm thinkin' 5-15 psi..which so long as the engine doesn't suck up all the air..should provide a little boost...I'd try it on a lawnmower...just ta see if it'll work. Metering will be handled by the carb. Should be simple enough...but how to drive the smog pump..Hmmmm....Modify the flywheel into a pulley, run a belt...Hmmm...TO THe DRAWING BOARD!!! Quote
23champ Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 ever seen a hillborn injection system ? Pro hill climbers (motorcycles) use it. Its a fuel injection system for nitro. Runs off the crankshaft. Sweet setups and work graet. Quote
CowboyBanshee Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 I have a buddy that did it, all I really remember is the quad didnt last too long before it was toast... Quote
hamuel Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 just go off the water pump. just need to make a second seal for it. and a pully. would work. Quote
cudaz101 Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 I have two cars with Superchargers on them...One of them is pictured below. Anyways IMO depending on what you would end up using you may end up using about the same amount you gain just to propulse the pump. This is the only bad thing about Blowers is that they rob HP to make HP. So if you can't make X amount of boost then you are defeating the purpose. And even if you do make X amount of Boost...Is it a cool enough charge to prevent detonation...??? Turbo's make alot more sense for smaller applications. Not to say it can't work...Its just that you could net better, more efficiant results with a small turbo. Brad Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 is that a thunderbird?? If it is, thats pretty fuckin sweet! I think it would be a good idea to do, but is it really gonna be worth it for the extra (unknown amount) of power? Quote
dave95.1 Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 All of the GM pumps are electrical now, so you wouldn't have to worry about driving a pulley or robbing any power. Quote

It is a 94 Tbird SC "Supercoupe"...I have a 90SC as well. You may already know, but they made them from 89-95. Brad Quote
