Hubie000 Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 hey guys- I noticed the other day that my shee is leaking oil out of the area where the shift lever shaft comes out. It looks as if it's a "seal". not sure though. is there a seal there that can leak? If so, what "seal" is it? I was looking on Rocky Mountain for a replacement but not sure what it was. Also, how does one go about replacing it. thanks Quote

Get the seal Take the stator cover off along with the shift lever Get a couple of sheet rock screws. CAREFULLY GET THE SCREWS TO THREAD INTO THE SEAL!! DO NOT GOUGE THE ALUMINUM SEAL AREA THE SEAL IS SEATED IN OR IT WILL LEAK FOR EVER AND EVER!!! Once the screws are in about 2-3 threads worth, start pulling on them. DONT YANK ON THEM. Pull on them. Make sure to do it evenly. Take a clean rag A CLEAN RAG!!!! and wipe out that area, the shift shaft, everything. Make it so clean your momma would cry. Put a little oil on the shift shaft to make sliding the seal down it easier. Slide the seal into place, then tap it in with something that won't fuck up your seal. Fill it back up with oil, park it on a clean surface, and let it sit for a couple hours. Edited March 3, 2005 by Cotton eyed Joe Quote

Cept I leaned the quad over a little on the right side (helps me work more comfortably and prevents the oil from draining) I used around a 1/2 pipe slipped over the shift shaft and easily tapped the seal back in place with a rubber mallet. You can get the seal for a couple bucks from either a dealer or parts direct. Quote
